"You know, that's wrong! That's wrong! ... Now I'm being told what I can buy and can't buy, and I don't think that's right."

"I love my fruit, I love my sweets too!:

Is someone going to tell her that fruit is loaded with sugar??

On Monday, Florida changed its state welfare policy to exclude junk food from being purchased with SNAP funds.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is meant to help needy people buy food by using tax money to give them supplemental nutrition.

The state of Florida is not telling residents that they can't buy soda and ice cream with their own money. It's telling them they can't use money taken from other Floridians to buy those items. You are free to be morbidly obese on your own dime.

Give these pathetic integrity-free parasites 3 MRE’s a day for two years. That’s it over a lifetime.

These lazy slobs need to suffer the consequences of their sloth.

Change your self or die.

That’s an idiotic statement. Every dime received from the government frees up a dime to be spent on junk food, alcohol, drugs. It matters not whether foods stamps are restricted. This policy props up the program by providing idiots on the right, those who value appearances over substance, some click bait headlines to enjoy.

Used to be that way. I worked in a grocery store as a teen. Did some register work when we manually entered the prices.

We had to separate the food stamp items ( there was a book) from non-food stamp items.

And then take their physical stamps out of their book. $1, $5 and $10 stamps. We even made change with .01, .05, .10 and .25 stamps.

I see food-stamp buyers in Walmart. They are buying sugar, salt, preservatives added products, alcohol. They are not buying lobster.

I see food-stamp buyers at the QuickieMart. They are not buying lobster as only gas, sugar, salt, preservatives, alcohol are sold there.

I see illegal immigrant Mexican cash buyers at Fresh Market in an area where many food stamp buyers live. The Fresh Market has fresh produce, meat, fish, seafood including lobster. Lobster is not often the choice of these cash buyers.

Stand by the register and watch who is used to pay. Almost all are cash. Rarely credit card. Even more rare a SNAP card. Checks never seen.

Fresh Markets have opened in areas that have many food stamp residents but few illegal Mexicans. Those Fresh Markets close for lack of customers.

That is indeed human behavior. The money they get for food frees up money for other things. It doesn’t matter if ebt cards are restricted. Even the restrictions don’t keep the abuse down. Were I live the folks go the local butcher on ebt reload day and buy prepackaged frozen cuts of beef and re-sell it 50cent on the dollar.

The local junkie can hook you up. Beef or meth. Lets the butcher raise his prices.

Not as efficient as allowing ebt cards to purchase Lotto tickets or tobacco which puts a lot the ebt value right back to the tax man.

When my wife worked part time in a grocery store as a cashier, she saw it all the time- people buying all the expensive seafood and cuts of meat we couldn’t afford. Then she would see them through the store window getting into Cadillacs. FOOD STAMPS…😡

That is the mechanistic view which ignores human behavior.

Many years ago, I had homemade ice cream. It was incredibly delicious, but it was also very easy to understand why it was so calorie dense.

“ no one should be able to vote to receive money themselves”

Here is one of the biggest problems in the USA. Generally speaking Democrats are the party of giving you free stuff. Republicans are the party of helping you get a job. The more people there are who vote for the Democrats, the more “free stuff” they get.

3 MREs a day would cost a lot more than food stamps per person.
