The University of Virginia fired its head women’s basketball coach, Amaka Agugua-Hamilton, in a shocking move after the Cavaliers made a surprise run to the Sweet 16, though reports suggest a toxic culture had developed within the program.
Virginia had been coming off one of the program’s most successful seasons in recent memory – reaching the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2000 – when the school made the announcement that Agugua-Hamilton was out in a terse statement released over the weekend.
But behind the scenes, Agugua-Hamilton was the subject of an internal investigation, USA Today reported.
The outlet also reported that there had been allegations of staff mistreatment.
Virginia sports reporter Jerry Ratcliffe reported, following the announcement, that the entire women’s basketball team, except for two players, had been preparing to enter the transfer portal.
Agugua-Hamilton had created an environment where her support staff had feared for their jobs due to abusive behavior towards them and threats to fire them, Ratcliffe reported.
“It was a toxic, nightmarish atmosphere,” one source told him.
Virginia did not provide a reason for their decision when they made the announcement.

don’t act surprised that flooding America with the 3rd world makes America 3rd world.
As Dr. Jordan Peterson said, women may not be physically aggressive but will just find other channels to exert dominance. I’ve seen it up close too. A female SVP tearing apart a male who asserted he had a case for a management promotion not given to him. She left him feeling less than human, done front of HR. I knew he would leave, who would stay? Took one month. Just great, a competent employee too.
I reported to her as well. It left me unable to be straight with her. To say it violated our code of conduct would be an understatement...and HR (all women) said not a word. I could only imagine if I treated a female the exact same way...
I think it's lack of brothers or lack of fathers or both.
A lot of single mothers have anger toward men. And these women raise children. The little girls may be brought up to believe that men are monsters. The little boys may be brought up to avoid all "toxic" masculine traits. Generation after generation, the overall population becomes worse and worse. Easy divorce is just the gift that keeps on giving.
I think that each woman should try to be the best woman she can be. And each man should be the best man he can be. Men and women are different, but each can be excellent. This, of course, gets more difficult in a culture which proudly claims it cannot define what a woman is.
My first thought is that she told the players that lesbian rape is still rape. But looking at the picture, I now see the problem...
Had a black female supervisor: I could never do anything right and she never did anything wrong. Purely incompetent, always late, absent, when there just strutted around, fat as a house, on those heels of hers. She lasted a year before she was promoted to central office...unbelievable.
I worked for a couple women. Not a pleasant work environment. I worked for a man for 35 years. When young and I thought he was in Court I had me feet up. He walked by and saw me move them. He stepped back and said, Put those feet back up. Then went to his office. Didn’t make a practice of it.
I used to tell my wife that the worst ones were those who acted like they thought men acted. When in reality, men tended to act like human beings most of the time.
The same is true when people assume they know how decisions are made “in the board room.” They are usually wrong.
Remember, UVA covets the title “Ivey League” that it lacks.
Any thing that might preclude being mistaken for being Ivey League is a problem
It has something to do with giving people power but not teaching them an ounce about being respectful or professional. So you just get arrogance.
OTOH college sports have changed and the players cry (literally) and complain about the coaches all the time.
Yes women in general are pretty nutsy as bosses. Yes I’ve seen power hungry obnoxious black women in power. Women always tell you women are impossible to work with.
But not a word in the article about what she did.
Let me say it again. Kamala got 48% of the vote. It wasn’t her.
I don’t follow women’s basketball, but I was happy to see her term get smoked by UCLA.
The irony is that they are all dedicated feminists
There is nothing feminine about feminism.
she will get a modeling gig somewhere, maybe the Dove soap commercials.
Jezebel.
> Tend to try and prove themselves by being mean and nasty. <
Like most folks, I’ve experienced that. But only with women bosses who were not competent for the position. They were not competent. We knew they were not competent. And they knew that we knew.
End result? The mean and nasty behavior you mentioned.
Oddly enough, I didn’t see that as often with incompetent male bosses. They usually just hid in their office.
Excellent post. I think the real problem is competence (or the lack thereof) and incompetent men and incompetent women do handle their own incompetence differently.
Same deal with the Dukies.
Hence, the so-called lacrosse scandal.
Make a Crazy coach and you get Crazy
