‘Goodbye California’ anthem sparks firestorm as country star hits back at critics: ‘Right is right’

Country star Annie Bosko is speaking out about the criticism that she has faced after releasing her new song "Goodbye California" earlier this year.

During an interview with Fox News Digital, the 40-year-old singer explained that the bittersweet country ballad has resonated with the majority of listeners but struck a nerve with others, who have tried to frame the song as political, which she insists was not her intention.

"I have gotten some backlash on the song, and I'm OK with it," Bosko shared ahead of her March 5 concert at the famed West Hollywood music venue the Troubadour.

"I think anytime you put yourself out there to make a statement and to say something, people will take any shot at turning something political," she continued.

"I don't believe in getting involved in politics — I care about the state that I grew up in," Bosko added. "I love California. So that's where I stand on things. And there comes a point where right is right and wrong is wrong, and it feels like there's too much wrong going on."

"So, you know what, if 1% of people are upset with me, then so be it, right?" Bosko added. "You can't please them all."

...Six paragraph excerpt and I have no clue what the song is saying...

It is saying California use to be a great place but now it sucks . As a former resident I can attest to just how bad , how far , it has fallen. In spite of the propaganda foisted upon me by the State Indoctrination Camps I attended ( public schools ) I read enough outside the curriculum to see the rot coming before it became obvious.

Why is every country song about horses, broken relationships, or substance abuse?

“Well, a friend of mine named Steve Goodman wrote that song
And he told me it was the perfect country & western song
I wrote him back a letter and I told him it was not the perfect country & western song
Because he hadn’t said anything at all about mama
Or trains, or trucks, or prison, or getting’ drunk
Well, he sat down and wrote another verse to the song and he sent it to me
And after reading it I realized that my friend had written the perfect country & western song
And I felt obliged to include it on this album
The last verse goes like this here

Well, I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison
And I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got run over by a damned old train”

I have never really heard a country song about horses, and I don’t think you have either. Actually, never about substance abuse. Yes, broken relationships, and that crosses all genres.

This country song is about California and concepts asssociated with it.

Because when you’ve lived like this what else is there?

I can vouch for the fun in a lot of this.

Goodbye to all the left coast states crowded yet empty.

You have to win the lottery to afford to get out if California it’s a trap that doesn’t want to let go.

Now you're just a wasteland of dust and broken dreams And all that's left are memories

Natalie Merchant had the same theme

Go west, paradise is there
You'll have all that you can eat
Of milk and honey over there
You'll be the brightest star
The world has ever seen
Sun-baked, slender, heroine
Film and magazine
So go west, paradise is there
You'll have all that you can eat
Of milk and honey over there
You'll be the brightest light
The world has ever seen
The dizzy height of a jet-set life
You could never dream
Your pale blue eyes, strawberry hair
Lips so sweet, skin so fair
Your future bright, beyond compare
It's rags to riches over there
San Andreas fault moved it's fingers through the ground
Earth divided, plates collided, such an awful sound
San Andreas fault moved it's fingers through the ground
Terra cotta shattered and the walls came tumbling down
Oh, promised land (oh, promised land)
Oh, wicked ground (wicked ground)
Build a dream, tear it down
Oh, promised land (oh, promised land)
What a wicked ground (what a wicked ground)
Build a dream, watch it fall down

Earthquakes and fires in California are a problem that pails in comparison to the evil collectivists who have seized power there. You can’t vote the evil out because the bad guys have so corrupted the system nobodies vote matters there anymore. The crooks run the show and they made sure it is going to stay that way.

A simple search online shows scores of country horse tunes. Even if the list is off a bit, the point remains. It’s like the physics club in Breakfast Club: Well, in country songs involving horses we-we talk about horses, properties of horses. https://www.wideopencountry.com/songs-about-horses/

Substance abuse is all over this genre: https://www.ranker.com/list/country-songs-about-drugs/ranker-music, https://www.ranker.com/list/best-country-drinking-songs/ranker-music.

And yes, the singer in California is breaking up with a municipality.

Now, I get the love some have for this genre. Different strokes for different folks. But there’s no denying the core of country.

“It figures that Google came up with the wrong result. I’ve often had to find ways of getting around their clever censorship of anything outside the Left’s narrative.”

I just did a Google search for “goodbye california by annie bosko,” and it popped right up.

With that said, so what if the lyrics are political. The left has been using music to push leftist politics since at least the great depression (i.e., Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger).

What do you think about the idea that if we had a reliable vote and count the democrats would presently lose even in California?

I know there are horse songs, and lots of mentions of saddles.

“A simple search online shows scores of country horse tunes.”

Country music is about a hundred years old, so it is possible that a horse is mentioned, just as cars, trucks, sunsets, pretty girls, etc.

Since country music actually ended about twenty years ago, I don’t keep up with it anymore.

Your link mentions drinking songs, which is now modernized into substance abuse, I suppose.

“And yes, the singer in California is breaking up with a municipality.”

You must think that is being perceptive or intellectual. It is neither.

If you love America it is hard to listen to Loretta Lynn and not feel heartbreak for what the 1965 immigration law destroyed.

Earthquakes and fires in California are a problem that pails in comparison to the evil collectivists who have seized power there.

The leftist Democrats were willfully and willingly voted into power. They do not even resemble the Democrats of an earlier generation or two. The Republicans once ran the state but Californians corrupted themselves and were overrun with illegal migrants, a double calamity. The illegal migrants had birthright citizenship and within a generation the Republicans are consistently outvoted, legally and illegally.
