Most definitely.
Pretty good assessment. Been here since 1998. Was banned once in 2016 for not expressing total fealty to DJT (Who I’ve voted for 3 times). After a proper ‘time out’ to contemplate my sins, Jim let me back on.
Fortunately, the mirror in the bathroom off our master bedroom has yellowed plastic over the fluorescent bulbs on each side of it, and the room has no overhead lighting. So, other than my weight gain the guy staring back doesn't look that bad. Every other mirror I look at seems to have the image of an extremely gray and hideously old looking fellow in it.
Hang in bud, prayers up
Good thought. I wonder what our average age is on here. 60+?
You misspelled mental institution…
But just as many stuck around to have fun with Laz.
* offer better enviroment, user interface, etc. — indeed, but the nice thing about FR is the simple, fast interface. Not cluttered with hundreds of annoying ads and popups that make it hard to find the content. But I suspect that the cohort that likes that is dying.
* many alternatives that include podcasts, etc. — So many sites are now nothing but dumps for video “shorts” that have little real value. And there are so many users on X that you don’t get meaningful conversations. You just get a bunch of short, random comments, but no back-and-forth dialog or discussion.
I fear the people who appreciate FR are dying and younger people born with phone screens glued to their heads don’t appreciate the beauty of simplicity and true community.
LOL!
It's been a long time since I had any real engagement with another FReeper.
I'm so old I remember when Rush would give us a shout out, which would bring us lots of joy.
Some of those he chased away were people grifting off of the Robinsons’ generosity, by blog-pimping their own websites where they got paid for the clicks and eyeballs sent their way. Many of those people never contributed to FR in any meaningful way, either monetarily with donations, or with discussion. Hit and run posters if you will.
We still have several of them here. If you post a vanity (which is what blog pimpers do, at a minimum), you should donate, ESPECIALLY if you make money off of your linked material.
Don’t forget the effect of the deep state posters.
There are two kinds: those who know they’re working for the deep state, and those who don’t.
Both kinds operate on low IQ.
Our Sunday Talk Show thread was really rockin’ in the aughts. Usually 1,000 - 1,700 posts per week.
And not really to follow the shows and passivley watch, but to call them out on their hypocrisy, omissions and lies. We used to give prizes to the top 3 posts of the day.
I don’t believe 40-70k unique hits here daily
Daily unique posters maybe a few thousand

I totally forgot he was focused on chasing away the blog pimps. Thanks for the reminder. He was merciless on them. Sometimes I thought he was too harsh as some of their content was good.
Humblegunner was a Mary knoll compared to howlin and her zot posse that patrolled this joint over hot topics like bush amnesty

“For me this place is still the perfect mix for a social media outlet. And it is an amazing refuge from the completely commercialized competing platforms.”
I feel the same. It’s an easy site to navigate, and you can quickly get a pretty good feel of what’s going on in the world.
