I suspect that the power companies have been squeezed so much that they can no longer maintain their power lines and safe space around them. Maybe due to cost or regulations.

step 1 ... be the first state to legalize pot to attract all the crazies from all of the other states.
step 2 ... hold the DNC convention to bring in even more crazies.
step 3 ... throw people in jail that try to expose voting fraud.
step 4 ... go broke.

It is hardly surprising that CO has descended into a third world sh@thole after being Californicated. Progressive fiscal and eco zealot policies eventually drag every state down.

Simple choice, you can either trim around poles to remove the flammables or just cut the power every time the air is forecast to move.
Eco nazis will always choose one direction and never the other.

These failures are all part of the larger plan to disrupt and ultimately destroy the United States of America as we know it, these failures are designed to bring about a collapse of the Republic and replace it with a One World system controlled by Islam and Muslims.
Our current "elites", those trying to run this country into the ground are simply willing pawns in the destruction of this country, hoping that they will either be long gone when the collapse comes or they will be treated with some sort of reverence by the new overlords.

We lived in Larkspur, halfway between Denver and Colorado Springs, and the power outages were happening more often as time went by. Every snowfall seemed to come with predictions of more outages too.

I went to middle school in CO... we weren't allowed to graduate to HS until you've fired a rifle, shotgun, handgun, bow, and crossbow on the football field. It was a mandatory Hunter Safety Education course. Marine Sgt Alms was my teacher. We also tied flies, and learned how to survive if stuck in the mountains in winter, how to light a fire, how to make safety equipment, etc.
It's a much different place now.

John Denver, AKA Henry Duetschendorf Jr. No wonder he chose a different stage name.
Once my wife and I were at a movie about time travel and someone (in the movie) asked, "Who the president in xxxx? The other character answered, "Richard Starkey". My wife and I burst out laughing because we seemed to be the only people in the theater who realized that was Ringo Starr's original name.

Just pass a wealth tax on all those second homes and the liberals in the Rockies. High taxes always work.....
