In 2017, I took Cipro for just five days to treat a simple UTI. Since then, my quality of life has been steadily deteriorating. Over the past seven years, my condition has worsened to the point where I can barely walk, and I will soon need a wheelchair.

Hopefully mine resolves. Sorry you seem to be one with the permanent side effects.
I walk a minimum of 10k steps a day normally. Now I’m right around 5k. Taking it a bit easier than I normally do. I’m usually extremely active, lots of manual labor. Not getting on ladders for the time being just to be in the safe side.
I’ll give it a shot.
The lesson I’m learning from your experience is to be even more forceful in refusing medication that is known to me to cause bad side effects in me.
Cipro can be very harsh on the body or worse. I have been prescribed cipro twice for deep prostate infections. Primary side effects were joint pain, but that ended when I finished the script.
With said, the potential side-effects are serious and well publicized:
“Ciprofloxacin can cause serious side effects, including tendon problems, damage to your nerves (which may be permanent), serious mood or behavior changes (after just one dose), or low blood sugar (which can lead to coma).”

I didn’t think about side effects, no one even mentioned anything about them either. It was only after this last round of antibiotics that is become a persistent thing. Being in the hospital for 5 days I thought the leg and feet issues were from the immobility compared to my normal rigorous daily labor and exercise.
Metronidazole was discontinued and ciprofloxacin and supportive treatment with thiamine, methylcobalamin, and folic acid was started.
Ironic.
We specifically do not take berberine and St. John’s Wort for precisely such reasons.
They conflict with other supplements and foods that we get more out of.
I do the check before we use a new supplement.
We are both lucky. No blood pressure problems. I have restless legs, so I take one Rx for that so I don’t kick hubby at night. It’s the lowest dose, and still works fine 15 years in. His only problem is this neuropathy thing in his feet.
Good for you!
In 2020 I only walked about a mile every day. Since then my average for 5 years has been 3.6 miles daily, which I believe has fended off most health problems.
Most of my activity is taking care of my house and yard, so the winter is less active (the yard part). I’m not big on ladders either.
Keep on keeping on!
Wow. Are you sure it was the cipro?
Cipro is the only thing I can take for UTIs, and I feel better than I have in years.
“cipro is the only thing I can take that cures any infection (especially UTI) quickly with no side effects.”
Same for me. When we’re in some ports on cruises, I stock up on cipro OTC. I used to get 3-4 UTIs a year, and Cipro was magical.
Now I take D-Mannose every day (2 in the am, and one before bed). Haven’t had a UTI in about 4 years.
Indeed. Going to keep going for sure. Still building my business to give to my daughters when I retire.

“for a supposed prostatitis(slightly elevated PSA)”
You must have had other symtoms?
No, my urologist prescribed Cipro for my prostate. He had previously prescribed doxycycline to me.
