A popular Spring Break destination has been rocked by gun violence over the weekend, after five different shootings occurred in just three days, leaving one police officer injured and a suspect in critical condition.
Video of one incident shared online showed thousands of screaming people running down Daytona Beach, Florida, while law enforcement agencies from multiple jurisdictions dispersed across the sand.
None of the shootings unfolded on the beach itself, though two shootings on Saturday were beachside, officials with the Volusia Sheriff's Office told WFTV.
There was also a fight at Joint Bar on Seabreeze in which a shot was fired, but no injuries were reported, Daytona Beach police said.
Just one hour later, someone was shot in front of a Crunch Fitness.
All of the victims of those shootings are expected to recover, police said.
But on Sunday, a fifth shooting left South Daytona Beach Police Officer Jake Fessenden injured in the hospital and the suspect, Todd Anthony Martin, 31, in critical condition, Port Orange Police said.
The incident began when Port Orange Police responded to a call of a shooting off Country Lane, and located Martin, who fled in a vehicle, the police department posted on social media.

Surely, apart from spring break, they are diligent Pell Grant and National Merit scholars.
Gun violence makes the news. Would they be happier if it had been a knife or sword fight? How about flying a plane into the crowd.
It’s them again, Yogi.
LOL. Thanks Gramps!
It’s an amazing culture. So family oriented and domesticated.
Those people can get toasted too. Up north St. Patty day is usually held during spring break, so bar owners came up with an unofficial St. Patty day earlier in the month to make up for slow receipts during spring break. It was a 3 day drinking fest for many college students. It got so bad the universities got with local officials to shut it down as best as they could. In my town it was common for a student or 2 to fall off a balcony and kill themselves. A few dozen also ended up in the hospital with alcohol poisoning.
I am not sure why universities still have spring break. It seems to me to be a tradition that lives on for no reason.
Yes, sadly its always them. 😣
Fixed it.
Will anyone in the media or politics ever state the truth about these situations?
I was just down in Daytona for bike week. There were thousands of bikers in town pouring money into the local economy. There was none of the chaos of spring break. Gee, I wonder what the difference is between the two crowds?
ps
Most Bikers value safe driving and are meticulous about obeying MV laws.
Ain’t over, till the last thing is out.
Indeed. Hard to believe that as a little kid in the 1960’s, we had Diana Ross, Ray Charles, and others. As a society, we were on a much, much better track.
Is “Florida Spring Breakers” the new euphemism for “teens?”
Ah yes. Black Bike week where the local politicians make it illegal for shops to close because muh racism. Where are the teens suppose to loot if the shops are boarded up?
I want to see “White Bike Week” rolling down the streets of Selma.
Hmmm, whatever could be different about those two large-scale gatherings that would make one prone to chaos and violence, and the other much less so?
What a head scratcher. Maybe Yogi can give us some insight.
Ah yes. The disciplined scholars on “break.” While my poor dumb self saw “spring break” as a chance to work two shifts to save up money to pay for my own college expenses without taking a single penny in loans. I’m glad my taxes are going to such disciplined scholars who are taking important classes like “African Poetry” who need a chance to relax and party after an exam on “Missy Elliot Rap Lyrics”
Thirty years ago, students from historically Black colleges
descended on Tybee Island, Georgia for their Spring Break. The
damage to the beach and nearby properties was extensive enough
that after about 5 years of this annual ritual, the town fathers
told the provosts of scores of colleges that their students were
no longer welcome. I guess that the Black Beach experience has been
moving South on I-95, passed Jacksonville and now at Daytona.
If this trend continues, the hoards should be at the Space Coast
by 2030.
“On Patrol Live” (Reelz TV network, 3 hours every Friday & Saturday night) rides along with the Daytona Beach PD each week as one of the departments they follow.
Anyone who watches that program knows what a feral shithole DB can be. The scenes where massive crowds are getting uppity and violent are comprised of exactly what you’d expect even if you’ve never been within 1,000 miles of Daytona.
Do you watch it? Do you like Chief Bradley in Arkansas?
I believe I remember when Daytona first got tagged as the destination of choice for the black college spring break. My sister and her friends were enjoying the beach at Daytona and suddenly found themselves in the company of a large crowd of black spring breakers. My sister was highly descriptive and uncomplimentary of the experience, having been once abducted at random and nearly raped and murdered by a black criminal.
