When it comes to the queer bar in the wild, so many threats exist, and it's only gotten worse in the past few years. Higher upfront costs combined with lower foot traffic have caused a nationwide problem for the service and food industries, which is exacerbated in queer spaces, which deal with smaller demographics than the average bar or restaurant. And of course, there’s the fact that many people, especially younger people, just don’t go out or have a third space anymore.

A somewhat famous "gay" bar in my city made the news in 2009 when a routine, legal bar check by local police and Alcoholic Beverage Commission agents was misconstrued as a "raid," and got the city to issue horrible concessions. The bar was obviously dealing drugs in the back rooms and was serving minors. A high employee drove home on the DFW turnpike and ran into an 18-wheeler, killing himself. Thankfully, no one else was killed.

The bar was a nuisance in the neighborhood, with patrons littering the properties adjacent and engaging in what fags engage in in public, around and in their parked cars.

A few years later, the bar caught fire after hours. It pretty much burned to the ground. The owner originally began planning a relocation, but it never happened. Took the insurance money and ran. I said that the fire might have finally sterilized the premises.
