There’s little doubt that the wealthy are closely linked to savvy tax maneuvers. Montana offers famously friendly vehicle registration laws that allow some to avoid paying far more in other states. It’s come under fire plenty of times in the past as have those who leverage the so-called “Montana license plate loophole”.

Now, California says it’s charged 14 individuals tied to more than $20 million worth of vehicles that were were allegedly registered and plated out of state, despite actually spending their lives in California.

My neighbor's cars are registered in South Dakota, my nephew registered his truck in Oklahoma. Pretty common to see out-of-state plates around here.

I have an idea. Lower the registration rates. Mrs. Eagle and I both drive 25 year old vehicles and we pay $300 fir for each vehicle every year. The registration fees are too damn high!

I pay $92 for two years per vehicle.

Just filled up @ $3.29.

This is reason number 678,343 to get the frack out of Kalifornia.

The other day the Mayor of San Francisco was attacked by some of the San Francisco street zombies. We would not be surprised if the San Francisco Mayor now performs his duties via telecommute from..... well.........

Anywhere but Kalifornia

No, they aren't. I pay $300.00 to $500.00 per vehicle here. Idaho is MUCH more friendly.

California auto registration costs are insane.

About $460 or so for a newish car for a single year.

I was paying about $80 in Florida for a two year decal.

Actually, your registration fee is between 70 and $80. Everything else is taxes and fees. I left California in 2022, my F350 cost me $525 to register the year I left. (everyone told me not to register it, just wait until I got out of state) I finally got rid of it in 2024, but it cost me $78 to register in the state of Texas.

I don’t blame anyone trying to dodge corrupt government anyway they can, even rich people. People not outraged by government spending and excess should STFU.

Montana is also upset about exotic cars with California license plates.

Yet somehow they elected Kevin Costner governor instead of throwing him out.

All States are looking into this. Utah recently cracked down as well. AS much as I am glad not to live there anymore, this is not a “California thing”.

There is a point of diminished returns when it comes to taxes and fees.

If you make it worth while for people to avoid paying you, they will do so.

You want to keep the amount small enough that the majority will pay.

Yeah there will always be the person who will do just about anything to avoid paying you because he hates your guts but mostly people will pay a reasonable amount.
