Republican group attacks Thomas Massie for his opposition to Iran war
Politco ^ | March 9 | RF

Republicans attempting to oust Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie in a bitter primary are deploying his opposition to the war in Iran.

The Republican Jewish Coalition Victory Fund on Thursday released an ad supporting Ed Gallrein, the candidate endorsed by President Donald Trump, that focuses on Massie’s opposition to the war.

“America is at war with a fanatical regime that seeks nuclear weapons. American hero Ed Gallrein stands with President Trump, our country and our military,” a narrator says in the 30-second spot.

“Thomas Massie, he stands with Iran and radical leftists in Congress,” the narrator says, “opposing Trump just like he did on the border and taxes.”

The ad appears to be among the first attempts of its kind to use the Iran war to support a candidate, a risky choice since polls show the high-risk operation is not popular with voters. Massie, who faces Gallrein in a May primary, is a top Trump target for a number of perceived sins — most notably because the outspoken Kentucky lawmaker successfully pushed with Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California for the release of the Epstein files.

Massie, asked for a response to the ad, defended his position.

“In 2024, I joined millions of Americans in supporting Donald Trump and JD Vance because they wanted to finally end the ‘forever wars,’'' he said. “Now in my 2026 primary, I am being attacked with millions of dollars in negative ads because I still believe and am willing to fight for what we voted for two years ago.“

Massie has been a pain in the butt who votes with the Dems more than the Republicans. Massie is not a team player. Massie is only out for Massie.

Massie has been a pain in the butt who votes with the Dems more than the Republicans.

This is absolutely false. And when he votes with the Dems more than the Republicans, he's often voting to uphold a political agenda that used to be part of the GOP platform.

Massie is not a team player. Massie is only out for Massie.

Who is Ed Gallrein out for? He's a political candidate who was manufactured out of thin air and supported by millions of dollars from Beltway lobbyists and insiders.

I'm no fan of Massie, but I've said for months that spending money and energy to mount a primary challenge to him is going to be remembered as one of the biggest political blunders of my lifetime. He would have been nothing more than a sideshow clown in Congress if the GOP hadn't pissed away so many House seats in swing districts since 2016.

Massie vs. Gallrein...

Just a two man race?

What do the polls look like?

Politico claims Massie became a top Trump target because Massie pushed hard for the release of the Epstein files.

Baloney!

“ Pushing out Massie in a primary campaign while surrendering dozens of other House seats in swing districts is one of the dumbest moves any political figure can make.”

No offense, but Thomas Massie has gone full blown Liz Cheney.

Iran has been behind every terrorist event in the world since Carter gave Iran to the mullas.

This is the kind of nonsense that completely discredits both the poster and the website.

Thomas Massie is the same thing he always was -- a clown who made a career out of being the sanctimonious jerk who proudly voted against House bills that passed by 425-3 margins.

Nobody gave a sh!t about that until the Republicans permanently surrendered dozens of House districts in suburban America to the Democrats over the last ten years.

"Massie has been a pain in the butt who votes with the Dems more than the Republicans."

"This is absolutely false."

I used to like Massie's "principled conservative" schtick but it has worn quite thin over the past several months.

However that lie which some poster made above about Massie voting with Democrats is in fact absolutely false. Yet it's frequently repeated by idiots who have no clue what the actual figures are.

In 2025 Massie voted with Democrats 11% of the time:

Ideology Data for Thomas Massie

For those who would drool "yeah, but what about the IMPORTANT votes?"... Massie voted the right way on 35 of 41 "key" votes in 2025. His lifetime rating is 93%, though people can probably find a lower number somewhere if they resort to some site which cherry-picks data and uses tiny sample sizes.

FOX News says that Assie is the worst Republican, since Trump got into office, until early Jan. 2026.

Surrendered? I don’t think so. I think they lost them when the Party shifted to a more working class party. If there was any surrender, it was on playing nice guy with redistricting.

You’ll be there to support and vote for Massie, right?

Oh wait, you probably don’t want to leave England, since you’re a British subject of the British monarchy who loves to wag fingers and be a busybody in the affairs of Americans.

Pro tip: Fix your diseased and failed kingdom of Britain first before you tell Americans, who kicked out you meddling British imperialists centuries ago, what to do.

Fox’s methodology is different than what discerning analysts use; the correct way (which Congressional Quarterly has used forever, and they know way more than Fox News about evaluating Congress) is to include only those votes where a majority of Democrats voted together *against* a majority of Republicans (and vice-versa, obviously) — and then use those votes to determine who is an apostate and who isn’t.

Fox appears to skew the data by also using votes in which a majority of Democrats and Republicans were united TOGETHER (those 435-3 type votes) instead of in opposition to each other. And nobody cares about those. Nobody who wants to get an accurate picture, anyway.

Use whatever set of numbers you like, but one set pollutes the data with pointless garbage and the other focuses on votes for which there is a clear distinction between the parties. If anything, Massie’s refusal to go along with ridiculous “show votes” is normally an item in his favor because at the same time he is voting against a majority of DEMOCRATS too. Not WITH them, AGAINST them. He’s just also defying Republicans while he’s at it. It’s simplistic and erroneous to interpret “against Republicans” as “with Democrats” when irrelevant votes are included.

As if anyone really cares whether Congress should wish a happy birthday to someone, or name some tollbooth on a Wyoming interstate after somebody no one’s ever heard of. Those are along the lines of the typical 435-3 votes, but if those useless votes are what cause Massie to be so infuriating, then by all means include them too if it helps make a point.

Yes you do, you are at least one of, and perhaps the most dedicated voting agenda pushing activist on FR, yet you have never voted for Trump or any other republican.

Alberta’s is a sane voice of reason around here on many issues

I find it sad that Freepers shill for other freepers to get banned/pushed out. You cannot win elections in the U.S. without independents, libertarian types and old school conservatives turning out and being enthused.

Good luck. Maybe you’ll see the folly of these policies in the mid-terms ?

The sad thing is the beneficiaries will be Democrats and THEIR agenda. Do you know how destructive this will be?
