The unidentified teacher was suspended with pay after making the comment on February 24 as outraged parents fumed to the Merrillville School Board.
'This is what he thinks about our kids,' one parent said at the Tuesday board meeting. 'I'm not getting over this... now we see this coming from the president also.'
Parents in the school district angrily voiced their complaints at the board meeting, as the Gary branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has launched an investigation, the Chicago Tribune reported.

I just hope he didn’t call the students “Bla-Kay” “Jayquellen” or “De-Nice”.
The term pongid refers to members of the genus Pongo - which embraces three species of Orangutan.
Orangutans are perhaps the most peace-loving of the family Hominidae (which includes the Gorillas, the Chimpanzees, and Humans), and so this term really shouldn't be applied to the violent and feral specimens described in the article.
Regards,
Well monkeys in a zoo act like monkeys in a zoo.
Stanley Kubrick style Australopithecus? Whatever it requires to make you happy…
Regards,
Got it. I’m a little slow.
LOL. I was watching that game and when he said it I laughed and said, no way he just said that. We all laughed.
Could have just called it like it is and tell them to stop acting like a bunch of people who don’t know how to change the battery in a smoke detector.
That teacher needs to quit. One of those monkeys will bring a weapon to school and kill him / her.
Sounds to me like the moron who suspended the teacher has never been around a 5th grade classroom for any extended period of time.
If he had just said "Look at that little ape go!" Things could have turned out differently...
“’This is what he thinks about our kids,’ one parent said”
No. It’s what YOU think. Projection.
I suspect the boys took that as a challenge and a compliment.
He didn’t call them monkeys; he said they acted like monkeys.
The late, great Bob Grant used to refer to gangbangers and the like as savages and was called racist for doing so. But he pointed out that he was describing BEHAVIOR, and others were interpreting it as race.
Toora loora loora loo, they’re lookin’ for monkeys up in the zoo
If I had a Face like you, I’d join the British army
My 6th grade class in Arizona turned into a riot of discipline problems after a large 14-year-old while male was transferred into it from reform school! (Race was not an issue.)
I (a high-IQ white male) had been a leader in that class, but I was transformed into a bullied victim! The male teacher could not control the bullies, so they had to have a discipline “expert” come in and lecture and threaten the class.
I survived somehow, and went on to junior high and beyond.
So, fired for being too frank and honest?
Ay-ayron agrees!
Zot.
