Dear Abby: My family won’t get vaccinated to see my baby
NY Post ^ | February 23, 2026 | Dear Abby

Posted on 02/23/2026 8:50:11 PM PST by DoodleBob

DEAR ABBY: I am having a baby in five months. My doctor is recommending that anyone who visits the baby in the first three months be up to date on vaccines (Tdap, flu, COVID and RSV, if age 60-plus). We have decided to follow our doctor’s recommendations.

Some of my family members are resistant to getting these vaccines and want us to consider other options, like testing and wearing a mask, which is not as safe. Also, it would be hard for younger kids to do — my niece is 3. Abby, we vaccinated our young children (3 and 5) at the time when our niece was born, as part of what my sister requested.

I am already stressed about this situation and do not want to talk it to death with my family, and I have grown resentful because of it. In the past, I have set boundaries with my family, and most of them have not been understood or received well. Can you offer me some guidance? — EXPECTING IN WASHINGTON

DEAR EXPECTING: I am happy to try. When your baby arrives, the responsibility for its welfare will rest mostly on you, the mother. Follow your doctor’s medical advice to protect your child. If family members don’t want to respect your wishes and do what they must to avoid endangering your baby (as you did for them), realize you can’t change their minds, and keep your distance for the first three months.

Her very woke daughter is writing the column these days.
Both she and the woman’s doctor told the twit exactly what she wanted to hear.

The doctor advised the mom to avoid contact of her baby with unvaxxed people for the first three months. That’s about the time they start to become aware that people are different anyway. So meeting at three months or older does not deprive the child or the relative.

My wife and I both had COVID in November 2020, before the vaxx, and recovered. I told her we would not need the vaxx, having natural immunity. She chose to listen to Biden, Fauci and MSNBC instead. Within ten days after her second booster she started displaying Parkinsons-like symptoms, bouts of dementia and loss of balance. She had falls resulting in injuries.

She is now in long term care as it is unsafe to have her at home. Home care costs even more than the facility; either will impoverish us soon.

They justify truly terrible cruelty against parents and grandparents under the “setting boundaries” umbrella.

Interesting point... and likely accurate.

The Amish survive in an age where polio, smallpox, Scarlett fever, and so on have been eliminated by vaccination.

The pendulum has swung way too far in the other direction imho.

This is definitely the case.

You shouldn’t let your opinions on vaccination obcure the fact that it’s her baby and she has the right to establish rules on who can come into contact with her baby. Others in the family do not have the right to impose their rules on her and her baby.

She has an absolute right to be off the charts crazy.

I would never even think of denying that to her.

You couln’t be more wrong. Covid killed millions and the vaccines saved the lives of more millions.

That’s far too many shots IMHO.

My very smart MD pfrescribes vitamins, which makes them deductible med expenses, and didn’t think I needed aa covid shot. He did NOT go to med school in the USA where pharmaceutical companies provide much of the funding.
I think that ought to end. I’ve lived here almost 20 years. Had one cold.

Again, washing hands and decontaminating drinking water.

But at one time, the marriage covenant was that both served one another, and both served the Lord. That's all gone to heck in the cloud.

AMEN!

And amen, dear FRiend! Hope you and the Missus saw that wonderful speech tonight, from our most pro-life President of our lifetime! Between supporting pro-life, lowering taxes and bringing back jobs for working Americans so they can support a house and children, this President is doing all that he can for our nation’s families. I’m glad I have lived to see this. Victory in the midterms and in 2028!!

Sorry to answer so late. That’s terrible!

Are you still going to that MD?

Yes. It’s ok. The people in the office are nice, and the office is run efficiently. I’m seeing physician assistants (PAs) now. I may see the doctor again sometime. I won’t hold that episode against him. He believes whatever the medical authorities say. I hope he acquired some skepticism from the covid incident.
