A 43-year-old Kansas man allegedly spent his Christmas Eve on a mission to kill someone and armed himself with a hammer before knocking on a door of a home with several cars in the driveway.
When a woman holding her 1-month-old baby answered, the suspect — later identified as Jason Eastburn — pounced, cops say. He repeatedly hit her in the head with the hammer, requiring doctors to patch up the wound on her head with four staples, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit released on Monday.

Reading the article, I think the guy is just evil, possibly possessed. He was lucid and clear talking to cops afterwards, sounded like he knew what he was doing was wrong, and just wanted to anyway.

My parents live in a house that is offset from the street and isn’t visible during growing season. A bunch of years ago before cheap security cameras there was a female Yogi Berra that knocked on my parents door early in the morning. She was was yelling that her boyfriend was going to kill her and to let her in. My parents refused and that was the end of that. It is highly suspected the boyfriend was waiting just out of view for the door to open..

There are some private mental institutions left - my violent schizophrenic cousin died in one, fortunately, my aunt was able to pay for it. Otherwise he would have been on the street continuing to violently attack people - he was repeatedly picked up by the cops and jailed, only to be repeatedly released back onto the street.
Whatever the price is for the government to open back up these institutions, it is worth it to protect innocent people. Especially given how much $$ is wasted on stupid things (like my state’s “high speed rail” - 18 years, billions spend - and not a single inch of track has been laid).
We had very few mass murders by crazies till the mental hospitals were closed down in the 1970s. I remember three mass killings between 1949 and 1966.
Howard Unruh used a Luger in 1949.
Richard Speck used a KNIFE to kill eight student nurses in 1966.
Charles Whitman used a Remington bolt action hunting rifle to kill many from the Texas Tower.
When the films TITICUT FOLLIES and ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST were released the public demanded the mental hospitals be closed down and murders by crazies took off like a rocket.
This is why I always park in someone else’s driveway.

If someone managed to find their way back into a mountain and onto my ranch, they’d have to get through a few dogs of which one is a kangal. If they’re lucky the dogs ran them off. If they make it through that, then they get to deal with a happy, very approachable infantry vet. I keep a backhoe for fun too. I told the local police not to worry about me, I won’t be calling. Having said that, if one shows up here with good intentions there is coffee on too. I’m a dead end into a mountain though, it kind of has to be an intentional find.
If I show up, my business is coffee and I prefer honey not sugar heh. Usually when I show up to strangers houses though they can tell just by looking that my intentions are good. It seems people that have ill intentions just look odd. There’s always something it seems.
