Two transgender teenagers who were close friends at the same California school have died by suicide less than a year apart.
Summer Devi Mehta, 17, stepped into the path of a Caltrain on February 3, just 10 months before her classmate, Ash He, died the same way.
Mehta was a junior at Palo Alto High School in the Bay Area, while 15-year-old He was a sophomore.
Mehta left a suicide note explaining that she hoped her death would bring people together and raise awareness about the suicide crisis among the trans community.
Her family, who found her letter, wrote a heart-wrenching tribute to their daughter, which was published by The Trevor Project, an LGBTQ+ suicide prevention charity.
'The world was a scary place for her, as a transgender, autistic woman. It should not have been,' Mehta's heartbroken relatives wrote.
'It should have seen her for the wonderful, radiant and deeply empathetic person she was.'
According to her family, Mehta struggled with depression as well as the death of her best friend He, who identified as non-binary.
'All Summer wanted to do was make the people in her life happy, and be a good kid, a good friend, a good sister, a good daughter,' her family wrote.

Two mentally ill kids surrounded by evil adults who encouraged and condoned their mental illness rather then get them help. The adults failed them and the blood of these kids is on their hands. They were not “WOMEN” who were the most wonderful happy rays of sunshine. They were boys abused by the adults around them.
Wait, are you telling me that letting these kids “transition” didn’t cure their mental illness? How’s that possible? Everyone knows that the gender dysmorphia is the entire ROOT of their problems. If only they were in a tolerant community that would allow them to live as their true selves they’d be OK.

The one called Summer was a guy. It’s in another article someone linked upthread.
Not sure about the one called “He.”
(“He” is a bad word in the Thai language.)
