Douglas bought the bread on September 22, 2025, at the Walmart store located at 1575 Space Center Drive in Colorado Springs, per the lawsuit.
The loaf of MarketSide-branded bread allegedly had a 'sell-by' label placed directly over its preparation instructions.
This included the detail that the bread was actually a 'take and bake' product, rather than ready-to-eat.
A Colorado man sued Walmart after he claimed to suffer 'severe' injuries from eating raw bake-to-eat bread that allegedly expanded in his stomach.
Jordan T. Douglas, of El Paso County, said he spent three days at UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central after ingesting the bread from the bog box retailer.
Douglas filed a personal injury lawsuit on Tuesday in district court, alleging the bread sent him rushing to the hospital after repeatedly vomiting.
He claimed medical imaging showed a 'gastrointestinal obstruction caused by the expansion of uncooked dough', per the complaint obtained by Courthouse News.
He also alleged Walmart obscured the product's preparation instructions with a 'sell-by' label.
As a result, Douglas said he believed the bread was 'substantially baked' and already safe to consume.
He ate the loaf during his lunch break but soon developed 'severe abdominal pain and related symptoms.'
Douglas accused Walmart of 'altering product packaging' in a way that created an 'unreasonable risk of harm to customers.' He is seeking compensatory damages.

Ok - we’re off to the races!!
Even though mentally slow,
If off to Walmart you go,
If you’re buying old bread
and don’t want to be dead,
Just pickup cookie dough.
Instead.
close cover before striking.
That was a goat and it was a Mayberry episode.
You mean that gecko CAN’T talk??
Is there any company that could possibly foresee and give written warnings for all the ways their idiotic customers could misapply their products?
And surely Walmart has the biggest challenge of any company here.
I used to really like raw cookie dough. 👍
“My Aunt also got me hooked on Kojak, good television. :)”
I still have my “Members Only” jacket that Telly Savalas advertised on TV. Heavily advertised.
Amazon has them. I see one for $108 with 4000 reviews.
Members Only...that was must have LOL
That particular item is a Costco item. The item mentioned in the story was labeled as Marketside which is strictly a Walmart label. That being said, the Marketside loaf in question has the instructions on the back. Walmart usually places their date stamps on the front of the packaging. But even if it was on the back, the instructions are far too big to be covered by the date stamp that Walmart uses which is about 3/4"x3/4"
If the first words are "Take and Bake" and you need further warning to not eat it before baking it, you are an idiot.
Were the instructions printed in 86 languages? Did this kid even know how to read?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Good honest poetry.
I thought that sourdough looked familiar. Tried that: Wasn’t impressed. Gave away the other 2 loaves.
This is obviously just an opportunist playing stupid and gambling on a stupid judge.
On the latter, history being a guideline, his odds are exponentially better than the lotto.
