Pirro Threatens Jail Time for Lawful Gun Owners Who Travel to D.C. With Firearms
New York Times ^ | February 3, 2026 | Robert Jimison

Posted on 02/03/2026 6:42:57 AM PST by Miami Rebel

Jeannine Pirro, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, on Monday threatened jail time for anyone who enters the capital with a gun.

In remarks on Fox News that could deepen a growing rift between gun owners and the Trump administration, Ms. Pirro declared that if anyone brings “a gun into the District, you mark my words, you’re going to jail. I don’t care if you have a license in another district and I don’t care if you’re a law-abiding gun owner somewhere else.”

Her remarks prompted swift pushback from the Republican Party’s pro-Second Amendment wing, which was thrown into a cycle of confusion and frustration over comments from President Trump and some in his administration after Alex Pretti, a licensed gun owner, was shot by federal immigration agents last month during a protest in Minneapolis.

The shooting has fueled debate among conservatives over the administration’s vacillating posture toward lawful gun ownership. After the shooting, Mr. Trump and some senior administration officials sought to blame Mr. Pretti for carrying a concealed firearm during the protest.

“I don’t like that he had a gun, I don’t like that he had two fully loaded magazines, that’s a lot of bad stuff,” Mr. Trump said last week in Iowa.

Ms. Pirro’s remarks caught the attention of several Republican lawmakers, including Representative Greg Steube of Florida, a U.S. Army veteran, who said on social media that he travels into Washington from his home district every week with a firearm. “I have a license in Florida and DC to carry. And I will continue to carry to protect myself and others,” Mr. Steube wrote. “Come and Take it!”

Constitutional Carry throughout the U.S. with no licensing requirements is what we need

As we had until collectivists spit on the Constitution and created the obscenity known as the National Firearms Act.

She said D.C.! Why do men not listen to the exact wording?! She said bringing guns in from elsewhere was the problem.

“””Pre 86, legal in most states with a Federal permit. “”

Right. With a lot of paperwork. Some posters seem to think the Second Amendment makes all these gun laws unenforceable.

The fakes news New York Times is once again trying to stir the pot. The headline isn’t a serious take on the Alex Petti situation. A responsible gun owner would NOT carry a loaded weapon to an event obstructing law enforcement operations.

When has the NY Times ever been so concerned with “lawful gun owners”.

The Time is trying to spin people up.

It does sound like this is a preemptive warning.

Regardless, she's advocating stepping all over people's rights because the government refuses to deal with known criminals and those who fund them.

"To ban guns because the criminals use them is to tell the law-abiding that their rights and liberties depend not on their own conduct, but on the conduct of the guilty and lawless." -Lysander Spooner

What’s with this? Did the Democrats at some time in the past pass a law that says it’s illegal to carry a gun in DC? If so, change it.

Look. Pretti boi got what he wanted when he decided to take a handgun to a “peaceful” Demonrat Pep Rally. It’s his fault that he ended up getting his ass shot. You don’t need guns at a “peaceful liberal protest.”

_________________________________________________________
BRINGING a gun, wasn’t the real problem. He and his gun could have simply stayed on the sidewalk and protested peacefully with no problem.

Really? Which states might those be?

CALIFORNIA

California does NOT honor ANY other states' concealed carry permits.

And the laws here are arcane and if you are unfamiliar with how to comply with them and you bring in a handgun from another state the odds are you will fall afoul of them.

The odds are also that you will not be caught but if you do they will take a pound of flesh. Yes, it violates the Constitution and yes it is intolerable and yes I work to get the law changed. But, as the old proverb says "The nail that stands up gets hammered down." And I'm not risking the few remaining gun rights I have just try and to prove a point.

That is the law.

She is a Federal prosecutor. She does not work for the District. So, what Federal law are you talking about.

One question pops:

Will Donks embrace or support the 2A ? .... any & everything Trump must be opposed, doncha' know.

I suspect this will be walked back from Pirro or the WH, clarifying non-permitted carriers will be arrested.

I know exactly what she said. What’s your point? All gun control people think that bringing in guns from elsewhere is the problem.

The key is, if you’re carrying a gun, don’t draw attention to yourself by attacking Federal Law Enforcement officers and destroying government property. If you intend to pull those kinds of shenanigans, leave your gun at home.

USC Title 18 Chapter 44.

Every word of this entire chapter violates the 2A’s prohibition just by existing.

Whether we like it or not, Harvard Harris has been one of the more favorable polls to President Trump during both his first and second terms.

And it's not just about this question: it's about the overall perception of the substance and messaging coming out of this White House.

And it's pretty apparent that it has started to go south.

It might be the case that the sadsack Democrat Party is even more tarnished in the eyes of independent voters and that will ultimately save the midterms, but I wouldn't bet on it
