Jeannine Pirro, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, on Monday threatened jail time for anyone who enters the capital with a gun.
In remarks on Fox News that could deepen a growing rift between gun owners and the Trump administration, Ms. Pirro declared that if anyone brings “a gun into the District, you mark my words, you’re going to jail. I don’t care if you have a license in another district and I don’t care if you’re a law-abiding gun owner somewhere else.”
Her remarks prompted swift pushback from the Republican Party’s pro-Second Amendment wing, which was thrown into a cycle of confusion and frustration over comments from President Trump and some in his administration after Alex Pretti, a licensed gun owner, was shot by federal immigration agents last month during a protest in Minneapolis.
The shooting has fueled debate among conservatives over the administration’s vacillating posture toward lawful gun ownership. After the shooting, Mr. Trump and some senior administration officials sought to blame Mr. Pretti for carrying a concealed firearm during the protest.
“I don’t like that he had a gun, I don’t like that he had two fully loaded magazines, that’s a lot of bad stuff,” Mr. Trump said last week in Iowa.
Ms. Pirro’s remarks caught the attention of several Republican lawmakers, including Representative Greg Steube of Florida, a U.S. Army veteran, who said on social media that he travels into Washington from his home district every week with a firearm. “I have a license in Florida and DC to carry. And I will continue to carry to protect myself and others,” Mr. Steube wrote. “Come and Take it!”

“Just lay back and take it...”
This attitude is how we let them get away with it for as long as we have.
You Quisling cucks are the bane of our existence every bit as much as the Marxist Left...
It’s great to see the spirit of debate alive and well here at Free Republic now that Jim is gone 👍
DC concealed carry requires a permit.
Not if it’s shaped like a gun. The same goes for Pop Tarts.
Forget carrying a gun in DC, if you get arrested even with a magazine or ammo in your car they are going to make your life miserable. Empty carriage, expect the same. “Oh that’s not going to stand up in court” you say. The process is the punishment and they don’t have to win for you to lose.
If you want to go between VA and MD with a firearm or ammo you DO NOT shortcut through DC. You drive around the beltway.
There is an exception and that’s if you’re one of Nancy Pelosi’s “ little sparks of divinity” resident thugs and then you’ll get off with a pat on the butt.
I don’t say this lightly. She should seriously resign. You can’t have a an administration that’s supposed to be pro second amendment making those kinds of statements.
There is a tension between the two. You can’t discuss one without the other.
The 2nd is about a well regulated militia being necessary. Guns are one of many tools.
“the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”.
YOU CAN’T PICK AND CHOOSE WORDS.
Rights are not absolute. Along with rights comes responsibilities. Some of these responsibilities are common sense, some are codified. But you do bring up the point that society does want to codify EVERYTHING. How many conservatives here think another law will fix things?
It gets messy balancing those rights and responsibilities.
There should be no laws regarding guns in my opinion as stated above. When you commit a crime the eyes should be on the crime, not the tool used.
You have to look at ALL the words. I am not discounting you position and saying you are wrong, I am clarifying for the benefit of all.
We need to emphasize the words and roles of the people and the purpose of the amendment more. I have taught this to some young people, foreigners and criminals in the prison. There eyes get big with understanding.
Democrats and their cronies...are manipulating people...
