Why would someone not want what's at the bottom of Los Angeles's MacArthur Park lake revealed?

It's kind of suspicious how many technicalities have been cited as reasons for not wanting to drag the gang-activity-plagued lake.

If you were a city councilwoman, and your district included a derelict lake run by gangs, roughly in front of the Mexican consulate, and it was believed to contain a lot of dead bodies, wouldn't you want the potential mass grave cleared?

Well, the one who represents Los Angeles's MacArthur Park lake reportedly doesn't.

She's denied it, of course.

But the California Post reports that a private bid to use sonor to scan the bottom of the lake to locate all the bodies, weapons, and trash, was halted by one Los Angeles City Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez, who doesn't want that done, citing a park ranger.

According to the California Post:

A high-tech search for dead bodies, guns and other criminal evidence dumped in MacArthur Park Lake was halted at the last minute on Monday morning, The California Post has learned.

Park rangers told the search’s organizers that they shut down the planned operation on Monday morning at the last minute after the intervention from LA City Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez.

Her office did not immediately return requests for comment regarding the reasons for the last-minute shutdown.

The shutdown happened moments after The Post arrived on the scene and despite the search mission being planned for months.

Maybe the California Post should have someone test the water. If it has been a dumping ground, the analysis should disclose some really nasty stuff.

If he’d lived a couple more years he’d have greater reason to despise it.

Probably Jimmy Hoffa is in there along with 1.7 million bottles of Santa Fe White Port; the choice of discerning winos everywhere. I used to work at the CalCrest liquor store, one block from the park back in 1975. It’s always been a crap hole. Though there weren’t the gangs back then. It’s so bad now that Langer’s Deli had to shut down. They are great knishes.

““McArthur Park,” a fairly huge hit, in which he laments the rain ruining his cake, and that he can never make it again because he lost the recipe.

Good summary. It’s a stupid song sung with an overwhelming sense that the singer is incredibly important and that the song is incredibly profound.

Richard Harris did the original version in 1967 and made it to number 2 on the charts. Donna Summer had a cover in 1978 that hit number one.

And I remember it being at the beginning of the movie “Vertical Limit”.

It was pretty funny for us older people, who knew the song, then it wasn’t.

How does sonar hurt pipes? And yeah, I guess it’s a real bitch when people are successful at finding dead bodies in your lakes and rivers.

But hey, it’s also been the jumping-off spot for a lot of fine young people into the world.
