Why would someone not want what's at the bottom of Los Angeles's MacArthur Park lake revealed?

It's kind of suspicious how many technicalities have been cited as reasons for not wanting to drag the gang-activity-plagued lake.

If you were a city councilwoman, and your district included a derelict lake run by gangs, roughly in front of the Mexican consulate, and it was believed to contain a lot of dead bodies, wouldn't you want the potential mass grave cleared?

Well, the one who represents Los Angeles's MacArthur Park lake reportedly doesn't.

She's denied it, of course.

But the California Post reports that a private bid to use sonor to scan the bottom of the lake to locate all the bodies, weapons, and trash, was halted by one Los Angeles City Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez, who doesn't want that done, citing a park ranger.

According to the California Post:

A high-tech search for dead bodies, guns and other criminal evidence dumped in MacArthur Park Lake was halted at the last minute on Monday morning, The California Post has learned.

Park rangers told the search’s organizers that they shut down the planned operation on Monday morning at the last minute after the intervention from LA City Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez.

Her office did not immediately return requests for comment regarding the reasons for the last-minute shutdown.

The shutdown happened moments after The Post arrived on the scene and despite the search mission being planned for months.

“...believed to contain a lot of dead bodies,...”

I wonder what kind of health hazard that presents.

Having seen her, I would say there is nothing there because she ate all of them. Even the bones.

Understood. I was suggesting/implying that the ‘costs’ were what she was threatened with. Things like “Nice house you got there! Be a shame if a place like that burned to the ground, wouldn’t it?”

A watery cemartary. A large community of dead people who inhabit the lake bottom. Could be another Stephen King novel? A democrat voting district?

A private citizen might be able to make some money, "magnet fishing" for guns and selling them outside California...

Which in turn may have been designed to:

Renowned Texas author and educator J. Frank Dobie famously despised the Main Building (”The Tower”) at the University of Texas at Austin, calling it “the last erection of an impotent administration”.

Two possibilities:

1) General protection of Mexican gang activity on general principles, but not covering up a specific crime.
2) Covering up a specific crime, not necessarily Mexican gang related.

Either way, this story proves the lake must be searched.
