Enormous freshwater reservoir discovered off the East Coast may be 20,000 years old and big enough to supply NYC for 800 years

A giant reservoir of "secret" fresh water off the East Coast that could potentially supply a city the size of New York City for 800 years may have formed during the last ice age, when the region was covered in glaciers, researchers say.

Preliminary analyses suggest the reservoir, which sits beneath the seafloor and appears to stretch from offshore New Jersey as far north as Maine, was locked in place under frigid conditions around 20,000 years ago, hinting that it formed in the last glacial period due, partly, to thick ice sheets.

Last summer, researchers went on an expedition to follow up on reports from the late 1960s and early 1970s of fresh water beneath the seafloor off the East Coast. "It was quite the project and sort of a lifelong dream," Brandon Dugan, the expedition's co-chief scientist and a professor of geophysics at the Colorado School of Mines, told Live Science.

Within two decades, scientists will figure out a very cheap way to desalinate ocean water.

What scientists? I figured it out years ago. Lifeboats are provided with solar desal kits for drinking water. In places like the CA coast, the same concept writ large would easily supply plenty of drinking-quality water.

Wind and solar power would operate the pumps. Solar evaporation would take care of the purifying. And the by-product, sea salt, could be marketed (or the brine returned to the sea).

My grocery store charges a premium price for "sea salt".

in the second month,
on the seventeenth day of the month,
on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst open,
and the floodgates of the sky were opened.”

In the year that Methuselah died.
Methuselah...name means “his death shall bring”

As a side note, look up the meaning of names of the generations of Noah, found in Genesis 5.

Then take the meaning of the names, in order, and read those meanings in the form of a sentence.

It’s the Gospel message!

I can post it if anyone gets stumped.
Just ping me

They have, the deserts in Israel are lush with vegetables and olive gardens. The majority of the water for this is from desalinization.

Where I live, the water table is less than 30 feet. There is a river I can throw a rock at and hit 100 feet away that flows like a snake. My water delivered to my home by the city, runs 70 dollars a month. $35 for the water, and $35 for a base fee. We pay the base fee if we go on vacation and use 0 gallons. We also pay 40 dollar base fee for sewer, and 30 for water usage in the sewer. Just 10 years ago we had a well, it was said to be polluted from a laundromat. Yet the city draws from the same source. I know, I use the city park near me, to draw water and put it through filters for drinking. The tests on the wells, is cleaner than the fluoride enhanced water, but being careful is the way to treat water we drink.

Do NYC residents only pay $5 a month? That seems incredibly low.

You found a proper usage for solar power. How about putting buoys out that provide energy from wave action?

In Tacoma, they expanded the Narrows bridge. A Canadian company offered to build it at a sharply reduced fee, if they were allowed to put turbines at the base and sell the power to Puget Sound Power and Energy at the current going price.

The people in the Legislature, said “that is an interesting idea, but it came into the process too late to make changes”. Instead, they spent Billions of taxpayer funds.
