Nobody seems to have begun a thread for the snowstorm that is forecast for this weekend, so I thought I would.
Where I live (DC Metro area) a big snowstorm is relatively rare. We're the ones who don't really know how to drive in it because we don't get a lot of practice; and we also crowd the grocery store and wipe out the shelves - often for stuff we don't really need, and for a forecast that doesn't amount to much but flurries.
But once in a while, we really get whacked; and I think this may be one of those times. (My husband grew up in the wilds of Pennsylvania, and laughs at what we consider 'getting whacked' down here.)
I'm hoping we get lots of snow, and little or no ice; and hope everyone will be safe.
Let us know what you are doing to prepare, if you live where it might hit.
Nice. You'll be warm and happy.
“our favorite memories of snow; and we both loved the way it made everything so quiet.”
I had paper routes my last years in Virginia. I’d be out walking my route in the wee hours, just me and the falling snow, illuminated by streetlights and the absolute quiet.
I loved it. I wish I still lived where it snows instead of stuck in SoCal, where our seasons are firestorms and Santa Ana winds. And earthquakes.
Snow really does make the world magical.
in another version of grocery meltdowns...
ICE enters some third world grocery store

“They’re in the African store! […] They are NOT supposed to come in here!”
“I read an article today that said “millions” could be without power for “a week or more”.
News headlines showing 200 million to be “affected”.
Worst storm of all time. Except next weekend when it could be worser.
The dummies in Burleson TX cleared out the HEB of bread and toilet paper on Wednesday.
Now if I thought I had less than a months worth of wipe I’d go to the store. Who has less than 7 days worth?
This scare crap is getting somewhat ridiculous.
Last year the weather anchors scared us all to death that Hurricane Helene was going to hit Atlanta with 90 mph winds. We went to bed and woke up to the birds chirping and not even a strong breeze.
That’s a pretty good list!
I saw a report that stated over 3/4” of ice in some eastern states. Yowza.

VEHICLE AND TRAVEL
❄️27. Plan to avoid driving once freezing rain begins.
❄️28. Bridges, overpasses, and shaded roads freeze first.
❄️29. Keep in the car: blanket, water, snacks, phone charger, gloves.
❄️30. Replace old wiper blades and top off washer fluid.

Great list - worth repeating..
That’s bad. I don’t fear snow at all, but ice scares me.
I’m in north central Indiana and I’ve been watching this for the past few days. I don’t think we’ll get more than 4-5 inches but one never knows. This storm has been hard to track. Just in case, though, I got some cash on hand so I can pay someone to clear my driveway. 😁😁
Welcome to Greenland.
The weather people have been fluctuating a lot on this storm over the past few days.
My area is very hard to predict, so I’m not really sure of anything; but they’ve been a lot more insistent about this one than others in recent years.
“Snow really does make the world magical.”
The SoCal locals I live among just don’t get it. I tell them how I miss snow and they argue about it. They have never seen snow fall but they are convinced that it has to be horrible.
I tell them look, when I was a kid I’d even be out in the snow all day until my hands froze and it didn’t kill me. Of course out here even rain is big deal so their judgement is warped.
There will be a rush at the stores for milk, bread and eggs. Apparently during winter storms in the south there’s an overwhelming desire to make french toast.😉😄

thanks for the reminder to get cash.
I saw this crazy fight in the juice section posted yesterday. It likely has nothing to do with shopping for the weather but might as well be what is happening right now in some areas

In the garden, growth has it seasons. First comes spring and summer, but then we have fall and winter. And then we get spring and summer again. As long as the roots are not severed, all will be well.
I knew a young woman years ago who came here to college from somewhere in South Asia where she had never seen snow. I remember how amazed she was that it was ‘crunchy’ when she walked on it.
I’m not sure what she expected...
