According to Census data from 2022, Wisconsin has the 25th highest percentage of single-parent households among the states and the District of Columbia.
The Badger Institute has published several reports and news articles about family structure in Wisconsin and how it has changed over time:
A piece by Marie Rohde in 2018 discussed why both older and younger people are deciding to stay single.
A piece by Michael Jahr accompanied both those, showing how the idea of marriage is now becoming a foreign concept to some.

many poverty safety net programs in Wisconsin...marriage disincentives in those benefits’ structure.
DC is less than 50% black.

I think a more accurate correlation would be with the cost of living. In MA, the price of everything is so high you NEED two incomes to keep a house afloat.
In MS…not so much.
I have to admit, you are 100% right. The Root Cause is the blood thirst the Democrats have for unbridled, raw power regardless of the cost to the nation.

ThomasSowell agrees. Before LBJ’s laws black families were longer lasting and more profitable. After, Dads took a walk. It is a culture issue, but a culture CREATED by laws in this case.
Look at the fake issue of systemic racism. Look at success of Caribbean families in NYC. Some from one island are total failures. From another successes. Not skin color, not language, etc.
Having been a Hawaii residence for many years (not now of course).... I take particular issue with how they defined “single parent.” Being a single mom is a full time career choice on the islands. And enterprising hussy will get knocked up by a man with a single drop of native blood and will be given free food, housing, education for the kids and medical care. The men are happy to knock up as many local ladies and visiting haoles knowing they will always have a free place to live. They don’t care whose children are whose. And the state considers it a “two parent” household. The will take on a menial part time job but if the fish are biting and the surf is good forget it. They won’t come to work. But there are enough mainlanders who stay for a year or two before burn out who will work the other jobs. One of my client’s daughter had three kids and was pregnant with twins. All bastard children from different men (natives). The equivalent income for what she had was probably close to $150,000 per year, easy. But since one of the mutts who knocked her up would live with her it was considered a “two parent” household. It’s the island culture.
Not all of course, but way more than what that chart is showing.
I think the data listed does not add up, particularly the percentages for households with single parents and for households for married couple parents.

Then I took the percentages shown in the report and applied them to the total households.
The results for the percentages for the category single parent households do not agree with the sum of the numbers from the columns identified as “single female head of household no partner” plus “single male head of household no partner”. The numbers have under reported what the percentages suggest.

I would surmise the definition of households is the issue.
So it's not surprise that single motherhood is highest among those with the lowest average IQ (blacks) and lowest among those with the highest average IQ (east Asians, whites), with Hispanics somewhere in between. You'd probably see similar statistics in rates of sexually transmitted diseases for exactly the same reasons.
Washington, DC has nearly twice as many as West Virginia!
You just have to look at which states have the highest rates -- most of the southern states.
It's only 36% white. Who are the other 15%?

Been there 45 years and my observation is that the elections create a constant churn of people that have to be there and can afford the high prices. The recessions have a ratcheting effect on lower income people and areas. Some cash out and sell and some get pushed out due to affordability. High level government workers and the lawyer/lobbyist class are essentially immune to this. As the government grows so does the government worker / lawyer group. The size of DC of course stays the same. When I got there DC was over 70% black. That has been cut in half and will continue to go down. The next mayor of DC will be white. People laugh at me when I say that. But, you watch...
Marriage has little to do with the underclass having babies. It is an impediment for a single mother to receive generous benefits.
