That is the movie I was thinking of SECOND HAND LIONS, it has it all. Especially the feel good and laughter.
Its a bit raunchy, and has many of the Monty Python cast, plus Marty Feldman, Madeline Kahn, and many others.
A pirate movie that insults everyone! My all time favorite!

I remember watching Breaking Away, and thought at the time that it should win Best Picture. It shows how naive I was.

Used Cars with Kurt Russell and Jack Warden. Great comedy.
Just about any of the screw-ball comedies from the 1930’s and 1940’s will fit the bill.
The President’s Lady 1953 starring Charlton Heston, and Susan Hayward is another good one.
