European Union Needs Its Own Army of 100,000, Says Commissioner
Breitbart ^

Posted on 01/13/2026 7:00:27 AM PST by Tench_Coxe

The European Union should raise a continental army of 100,000 soldiers and create a “European Security Council” because the “Pax Americana” is over and it would build “European Independence”, a top commissioner has said.

The European Union wants to create a parallel defence structure replicating many of the roles presently carried by the NATO alliance, so said the bloc’s Defence Commissioner Andrius Kubilius at a Swiss military conference. While focussing on the Ukraine war and the perceived threat of Russia, the Commissioner also listed other threats or geopolitical changes that he said made it “even more clear that we need to build Europe‘s Independence”, including the new U.S. National Security Strategy, America’s pivot to the Pacific, President Donald Trump’s action in Venezuela, and “threats to Greenland”.

Two thoughts:
That size army is intended for "internal use"
And as to the bolded part: those are not something an 'ally' would say in the context of talking military.

They’ve got 100X that number of African and Arab military-age males

shouldn’t be a problem, and I’m sure the cultural-enrichers would be very happy to volunteer for their new homelands.

The European Union should raise a continental army of 100,000 soldiers...

If they're typical European "continental" soldiers, they would likely have trouble taking on the French Foreign Legion, even with a 10-to-1 numerical advantage...

To get them to fight, they’ll have to declare a “jihad”.

At one level, this is a good idea. Its well past time that Europe starts spending more than 1% of its GDP on its military in reliance on the US protecting them. But on the other hand, I suspect this army will be used on Europe’s own citizens much more than it would be used on any foreign enemy. Europe is turning into a fascist state and having an army will be used to that purpose.

Agreed. Watching the "rules-based order" folks playing the European version of the Democrats' lawfare against their own citizens, as in Germany and Poland as examples, it is very likely the European Commission would wield yet greater power of "mere" citizens of mere "member states." The play against the AfD and in France as well as examples. Canceling elections and even political parties "for democracy" are jokes on the whole enterprise.

LOL

Very few of them have any interest in serving their new country.

They are for the most part there only out of pure “self interest” and not even any higher moral and philosophical ideas are at work: religious freedom, free speech, etc.

They are just like her: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilhan_Omar

Muslim values, tribal in thinking, ultra socialist EXCEPT when it’s her own pocketbook we’re talking about.

These aren’t the Pilgrims we’re getting today.

Europe is turning into a fascist Islamist state and having an army will be used to that purpose.

Fixed it

In one sense, this would be a boon for us. No longer would we have to foot the bill, provide men and equipment, or station our service members in Europe.

That being said, I am saddened for what is becoming of once-proud Western European nations. I don't believe such a military will hold together, politically or economically, and be a cohesive force for defense. But as others point out, it could easily devolve into an internal police force to carry out EU directives on it's citizens.

Of course they will want us to fund it. I can hear the dollars flushing already.

100,000 soldiers

When you'll only be doing half the fighting?

That won’t happen, just like the rest of their fantasies. And they need a million troops to mean anything.

The money to pay for it would almost have to come from their version of welfare. And without welfare, how many immigrants would choose to stay?

So, now they need to find a little man from Corsica to lead this army, and he needs to know that he will need to unify all of the lands of old Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth before moving the troops East.

They will need closer to a million, if they want to go it alone. And it will cost them a big chunk of their welfare state programs, which will cause public rebellions and likely squash any effort for a bigger military. In sum, the people of Europe have been coddled by their governments so long, they will commit national and cultural suicide instead of defending any real threat foreign OR DOMESTIC.
