Trump admin blocked from freezing $10B in child care, social services funding to NY, 4 other blue states

A federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration on Friday from cutting off more than $10 billion in social services and child care funding to five Democrat-led states over fraud concerns.

New York District Judge Arun Subramanian, an appointee of former President Joe Biden, issued the 14-day temporary restraining order in response to a lawsuit filed by state attorneys general in California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota and New York – the states targeted by the Trump admin’s funding freeze.

“This relief is preliminary in nature and is designed to protect the status quo while plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction is briefed and decided,” Subramanian wrote in a two-page order.

Subramanian found that the Democrat-led states showed “good cause” in arguing that the funding freeze would have “immediate and devastating impacts.”

New York Attorney General Letitia James, who led the four other states suing the Trump administration, celebrated the legal victory.

“This decision is a critical victory for families whose lives have been upended by this administration’s cruelty,” James said in a statement.

“From childcare to shelter services for survivors of domestic violence, these funds provide resources that hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers depend on,” the Democratic AG continued. “This illegal funding freeze should have never happened, and I will keep fighting to uphold the law and protect funding that our communities need.”

“From childcare to shelter services for survivors of domestic violence, these funds provide resources that hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers depend on”

Yeah, probably less than 1/10 of one percent of the 9 billion goes “services” . . .

Did I miss the order to send Maduro back to Venezuela, or are they waiting until Monday?

The same be said for the district judge, no army to enforce. Trump should simply cite the SCOTUS decision and ignore.

President Trump just needs to ignore these activist judges.

What has he got to lose? He's going to prison no matter what should the Democrats ever regain power.

He might as well go full Pinochet at this point and just start tossing communists out of helicopters.

So tiring.

Can’t stop $130 million in federal funds after it’s found that MN has had $90 billion go to fraudsters - mostly Somalians who believe this is the jizya tax on non-Muslims that they have in Somalia, and that “fraud” is just the Islam-ordered “taqiyya” (lying). They don’t think they have done anything wrong (although they know to get violent with Nick Shirley when he comes asking questions....)

Somebody within the system told these Muslims how to get their “jizya”. Keith Ellison needs to be charged, found guilty, and hung from a Mall of America window in full view of everybody.

I believe all these rulings that defy SCOTUS will be the basis for the US military saying that the civilian courts are overtaken by belligerents and that cases must therefore be heard by military tribunals until the rule of law can be restored.

In this kind of situation, I think the side that gets the injunction is supposed to have a fund that would pay all the associated costs if they end up losing the case/appeals.

That’s why Trump had to fork over so much money for Tish James’s lawfare. It was supposed to be in case he lost the case.

I’m not a lawyer, so maybe some lawyers can weigh in.

i think that is how the ACLU operates too- they use taxpayer money to launch myriad cort cases, then the loser has ot pay the court fees of the winner- or soemthing like that- since most of the cases result in the defendant not having hte money to continue the case- the defendant end up having to pay the court fees and drops out of the case if i remember right

i dont understand it lal- maybe i got facts mixed up- but here’s a law site explaining it

“The Supreme Court Has Ruled: Losers Must Pay!”
