I've seen ads regarding car/home insurance and how you should NOT get it through an agent but get it "direct". Does anyone have info or experience? I'm retiring soon.
Dave Ramsey says you’re an idiot if you use an insurance agent.
And because Ramsey said it - I do the opposite of his advice.
If you were in the military just sign on to USAA.
“There are sites on the internet where you can plug in your details and they will send you quotes from a number of companies ...”
I’ve tried that, but every one required me to give them permission to share my information with their affiliate partners and give their partners permission to send spam e-mails and phone me. If I didn’t give them permission to share my information, they would not provide quotes to me.
I do an independent agent. Not all are good, but mine is.
They call me every year and give me the update, and how to save $
,,, I’ve had home, vehicles and business risk with the same broker since 1997. Occasionally the invoice may be slightly higher than the previous year, sometimes less with better conditions after they’ve assessed what’s on offer from a range of companies/underwriters. I can buy a vehicle in another city, call the company and give them the registration plate number and it’s covered instantly - no waiting for some call centre to run me through the bureaucratic routine. There’s three usual agents I can call and they consistently deliver well.
