Just wondering if any other Freepers are spending this Christmas Eve solo. Just my trusty greyhound and me here, settled in for a relaxing evening with a latte, Ralphie Parker and George Bailey.
Anyone else flying solo tonight?
It’s less painful most the time, but sometimes it all comes flooding back. Special times like the holidays will probably always feel like they’re missing something, because they are. As the pain gets less acute I’m able to look back on my memories with joy rather than just sorrow. I’m thankful he’s finished his race; he’s waiting for me to finish and join him.
I’m glad you have your mom; she probably needs you more than you know. I hope you can find joy in unexpected places as you do the important and privileged job of grieving your wife.

I’m alone, sort of. My wife of 58 years is asleep in the next room. But tomorrow we will celebrate with our daughter’ s family, including two of our grandchildren.

Never alone. I always make it a point to remain in service to God’s grace as best I can in case I’m in need of it one day. I’ve never asked but sometimes it’s just been there when I did need it.
Not too alone. I’ve got my two black labs next to me. And a woman and her boy hanging around. I can’t get rid of the woman so they’re here too.
Peace and good will all around.

Me, of course. I could be more sociable as I once was. Now that my dear wife has passed away (Feb., 2022) I have been alone since then.
Just me and my cat Max and my ex-wife. Max and I would rather be alone..
Not this year. But there were a number of Christmases I spent with my ex-wife where I felt alone. I worked as a corrections officer and there were Christmases where being at work was more rewarding than being at home. Fortunately this year I am surrounded by family, and the brandy is fantastic.

Sort of alone. Mr. GG2 is dozing in his recliner recuperating from rotator cuff surgery. We went to his sister’s house for a couple of hours this afternoon for appetizers and wine. My Sister and BIL are home sick so tomorrow I’m cooking out 2 nice steaks on the grill with baked potatoes and salad. Well, and wine. 😉
Santa is bringing Mr. GG2 a new pipe and his favorite tobacco so he’ll be sitting on the deck with his pipe and Buffalo Trace.

My wife passed from cancer back in February, this hasn't been a good holiday season at all. I didn't decorate the house, but her little holiday village in the china hutch is still there from last year where she put it. I left the lights on in the houses until the date of her passing and turned them off.
I have turned them on for this week. I miss you Carleen.

I am sorry to hear your son is in the hospital at Christmas. My husband is in the hospital tonight too. Has been there for almost two weeks.
Me and my Bernese Mountain dog, some spiked egg nog and a good stogie.
