CBS Pulls ’60 Minutes’ Piece Attacking Trump’s Deportations to El Salvador Supermax Prison

CBS program “60 Minutes” was accused of censoring an anti-Trump segment targeting the deportation of illegals to El Salvador’s notorious supermax prison.

Teasers for the segment, titled, “Inside CECOT,” featured illegal aliens recounting horror tales of being deported to the CECOT prison.

Reports claim the segment was pulled at the last minute just two and a half hours before it was set to air at the behest of new CBS News boss Bari Weiss, who claimed the story failed to meet standard editorial practices.

“My job is to make sure that all stories we publish are the best they can be,” Weiss said in a statement obtained by the New York Times. “Holding stories that aren’t ready for whatever reason — that they lack sufficient context, say, or that they are missing critical voices — happens every day in every newsroom. I look forward to airing this important piece when it’s ready.”

However, an internal memo to staff from “60 Minutes” correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi excoriated Weiss, without naming her, claiming the decision to pull the segment was “political,” not editorial.

“Our story was screened five times and cleared by both CBS attorneys and Standards and Practices,” Alfonsi said, adding that the White House’s refusal to comment was a tactic “designed to kill the story.”

CBS’ decision rankled many journalists who claimed the network was carrying water for the Trump administration, including Glenn Greenwald, who opined, “It’s almost impressive how much damage Bari Weiss has done to CBS News in such a short period of time.”

The decision to pull the segment is being scrutinized after Weiss was appointed to run the CBS newsroom amid David and Larry Ellison’s merger of Skydance Media and Paramount Global.

The move also follows President Trump’s comments last week that “60 Minutes” has been just as – if not more – critical of him since the takeover.

“For those people that think I am close with the new owners of CBS, please understand that 60 Minutes has treated me far worse since the so-called ‘takeover,’ than they have ever treated me before. If they are friends, I’d hate to see my enemies!” Trump wrote on Truth Social last Tuesday.

The segment is reportedly set to air at a later date.

Read Alfonsi’s internal memo:

News Team,

Thank you for the notes and texts. I apologize for not reaching out earlier.

I learned on Saturday that Bari Weiss spiked our story, INSIDE CECOT, which was supposed to air tonight. We (Ori and I) asked for a call to discuss her decision. She did not afford us that courtesy/opportunity.

Our story was screened five times and cleared by both CBS attorneys and Standards and Practices. It is factually correct. In my view, pulling it now-after every rigorous internal check has been met is not an editorial decision, it is a political one.

We requested responses to questions and/or interviews with DHS, the White House, and the State Department. Government silence is a statement, not a VETO. Their refusal to be interviewed is a tactical maneuver designed to kill the story.

If the administration’s refusal to participate becomes a valid reason to spike a story, we have effectively handed them a “kill switch” for any reporting they find inconvenient.

If the standard for airing a story becomes “the government must agree to be interviewed,” then the government effectively gains control over the 60 Minutes broadcast. We go from an investigative powerhouse to a stenographer for the state.

These men risked their lives to speak with us. We have a moral and professional obligation to the sources who entrusted us with their stories. Abandoning them now is a betrayal of the most basic tenet of journalism: giving voice to the voiceless.

CBS spiked the Jeffrey Wigand interview due to legal concerns, nearly destroying the credibility of this broadcast. It took years to recover from that “low point.” By pulling this story to shield an administration, we are repeating that history, but for political optics rather than legal ones.

We have been promoting this story on social media for days. Our viewers are expecting it. When it fails to air without a credible explanation, the public will correctly identify this as corporate censorship. We are trading 50 years of “Gold Standard” reputation for a single week of political quiet.

I care too much about this broadcast to watch it be dismantled without a fight.

Sharyn

They act like these are good people in these prisons. Maybe ask to do lunch with them. No silverware allowed. Chicken has been de-boned.

Hold on a minute!

The article says “an internal memo to staff from “60 Minutes” correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi excoriated Weiss, **without naming her**...” (my emphasis)

yet the internal memo says “I learned on Saturday that Bari Weiss spiked our story, INSIDE CECOT, which was supposed to air tonight. We (Ori and I) asked for a call to discuss her decision. She did not afford us that courtesy/opportunity.”

I think that *definitely* counts as ‘excoriating’...???

...Glenn Greenwald, who opined, “It’s almost impressive how much damage Bari Weiss has done to CBS News in such a short period of time.”

CBS "News" could not be damaged any further before Bari Weiss.

Glenn Greenwald, a homosexual with "adopted" children for him and his homo partner, carrying water for CBS...may God protect those kids from their monster "parents".

60 Minutes pining for the good old days when they could just forge documents and run them to trash a republican president.

If they were reporting the truth in the segment, why would they worry about Trump’s reaction?

Gee. I thought "60 Minutes" always WAS a "stenographer for the state"...

I do not believe that in my life, I have ever seen them do a positive segment on a Republican President, or even a real conservative.

“These men risked their lives to speak with us”. How F****ing psychotic do you want to be? They sold their souls. That is the only way to make that statement.

Oh, maybe 1 out of 50 reports or so they can point to it and claim to be “objective.”

One time (probably 20 years or more ago) I saw them do a story on fraudulent voter registrations including finding dogs and cats registered to vote and they said this was done to “benefit the Democratic party.” It was a shocking thing they said that. They also did one on Democrats unjustly obstructing qualified judicial nominees, specifically focusing on the nomination of a judge I believe was named Pickering. But again, that’s been decades ago now...

Everyone concerned should watch “World’s Worst Prisons” on streaming. CECOT is a paradise compared to the rest of prisons south of the border. They have sewage, relatively spacious cells, sanitation, food, lights, ventilation, and water. It looks nicer than most American prisons.

Yep...he’s a perverted homosexual...and may God protect those innocent boys

From WIKI:
Personal life
In 2005, Greenwald, aged 38, vacationed in Rio de Janeiro, where he met 19-year-old David Miranda, who had spent his childhood in the Jacarezinho Favela.[158] Days after they met, Greenwald and Miranda moved in together; they later married[159] and lived in Rio de Janeiro.[160][159]

In 2017, the couple announced that they had gained legal guardianship of two brothers from Maceió, a city in Northeastern Brazil.[161][162][163] They formally adopted the boys in 2018.

"featured illegal aliens recounting horror tales of being deported to the CECOT prison"

I would expect something like that to happen to me if I sneaked into a country illegally, but, of course, I'm smart enough not to do that in the first place.
