AI is a money and land grab.

Facilities are being put up faster than people can keep track of, and are being built in a lot of rural areas.

The President either has signed, or will be signing an EO to prevent states from regulating AI in any way.

When an industry needs that kind of protection, it's usually not going to be, in an overall sense, good in the long run.

The 'it's a matter of national security' theme is just a pretext, meant to neutralize the opposition, which is substantial.

The fact that they have to pretty much roll over local laws and ordinances to get these facilities built, effectively nullifies citizen participation.

Welcome to the New Order.

It’s because we do what we’re told. Sadly, digital technology is largely controlled by a generation whose ability to contemplate, reflect and otherwise think deeply has been underdeveloped as a result of their exposure to electronic screens.

But we can always change things, if we put our minds to it.

Great Babylon 5 post.

You answered your own question.

Unfortunately.

Again

Concrete uses so far

1. To track everyone

2. To lay off workers

Falls under 1

So much AI fakery on Facebook and “X” any more you can’t tell the real photo from an fake photo or a made up photo.

If you have had an illustrator’s art class in the past you can usually spot them right off.

There is nothing in that article that isn’t already being done... or is questionable whether it should be done

All presented in the great maybe.

Yes, it is.
That’s why we need a dual grid strategy, where those data centers and other high energy use industries are allowed to have grids of their own. Then they can leave the residential grid alone, so your power bill is not affected.

"That’s how progress works. We didn’t need telephones at one time, until they became useful enough to become indispensible."

You forgot to mention that people got rich, and still get rich with the invention, and production of phones, just like the railroads, the automobile manufacturers, the aircraft manufacturers along with the airline industry, military weaponry, etc. If people keep thinking they can't get along without these things, as well as every new invention that comes along, then there is no end to people's dependency on these things.

AI = pattern recognition with a “photographic memory”

Good for inspection work.

Helpful with language translation.

Helpful as an online assistant for searches.

........

These are concrete.

But I am not sure they need the data centers and drama?

Some of those things are being done, but not always very well.

There is no stopping this; and I think with the right safeguards, it holds a lot of promise.

Thanks for the conversation.

It’s the next dot com bubble. Useful but completely overhyped and oversold.

BTW, it’s my understanding that once you allow all your personal information to be stored on someone’s cloud, you no longer own it.
