The price of Eliquis is Forcing me to Consider Buying Drugs from Canada, Open for Suggestions.
Self | December 5 2025 | Pontiac

Posted on 12/05/2025 6:13:15 AM PST by Pontiac

My wife went in to AFIB Tuesday morning for the first time. She went to the ER and was later moved to Intensive Care.

To make a long story short she has been put on a Butt Ton of drugs, one of which is Eliquis.

This drug should have been on the Generic Market years ago but for some reason is not.

The lowest price near us that I can find is about $550 for a 30 day supply.

This is forcing me to consider getting it from Canada by mail.

Looking briefly I see some pharmacies in Canada offering it for $60 for a 180 day supply.

I am seeking guidance from anyone with personal experience buying drugs from Canada and a suggested reliable pharmacy.

At least you’re not on Sotalol. It works great, but it is expensive and you have to be in the hospital as they start you on the medicine.

Just checked...

Per the above, the website is going live in January. Next month.

Contact Eliquis directly. Our bill (same exact situation you’re in) went from $300 to $30. Call 1-855-ELIQUIS (354-7847)

I am in a similar situation.

I went to the ER with AFIB in early-November and I was put on Eliquis. Was told I will be on it the rest of my life. (I'm 63) Went to Costco to fill it that day and it was $115 for 30 days!

My cardiologist told me to check the Eliquis website for discounts, so I did. My $200 prescription for a 90 day supply was reduced to $30.

Good luck to you.

To know why Eliquis is not a generic see the political campaign donations of Pfizer and it’s numerous subsidiaries.

“Why such profitable companies need these protections I can not fathom when they can sell the the same drug in other countries for 10% of what they charge the Citizens of the US.”

Because the American medical system allows, and which freepers love so much more than the Canadian system.

Chat GPT:

Outside the U.S.:

In some countries, generic apixaban is already available (India, parts of Europe) because patent protections differ by jurisdiction.

Not nearly as effective either

Eliquis and Xarelta are both top tier drugs in their class

I get mine from Vanderbilt pharmacy which offers subsidized

I’m not sure how it works via that program honestly

I do know Medicare front loads costs first of year up to 2000+/-

After that zip

I hit it by march

Repatha
Trelegy
Cosentyx

All $$&& too

Eliquis at 2.5 a day causes me extreme bruising and cutting etc

I mean I barely bump a door jam

My wife takes twice my dose and half my weight and zero side effects

Good luck

This is something your doctors office should handle

There is a patent period of 12-14 years for brand drugs before generics can go onto the market.

If your wife is not on Medicare, you can reach out to the company for assistance in cost reduction. They will send you a card by email or text which contains some information for your pharmacy.

If your wife IS on Medicare, unfortunately, the company doesn’t have a whole lot available, though she may still be able to get some assistance from them. If you shell out for it at the beginning of the year, the copay should be zero or nearly zero after hitting the deductible. There is a maximum out of pocket starting in 2026, as well (see: https://www.eliquis.bmscustomerconnect.com/medicare-part-d-changes)

I’m a pharmacy tech, so I see this all day. I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for starting this thread as I am on Eliquis after coming off Warfarin. I hated the Warfarin due to bruising & blood draws to check my INR. I was using Warfarin to be eligible for a kidney transplant because it is reversible when surgery has to happen quickly, as in a transplant. But I was removed from the transplant list because they thought I wasn’t a good surgical risk. So now just on peritoneal dialysis at home 5 nights per week & back to Eliquis. Since it is late in the year, all my meds are no cost due to meeting a cost threshold in my Medicare Advantage plan. I may need the lower cost options mentioned in the thread next year so this is also a bookmark.

Best of luck in your search for a lower cost option & Merry Christmas!

Thanks, sorry about your kidney.
I lost my favorite nephew because he was not a good candidate for a kidney transplant. (That and COVID)
Your plight hits home with me.

Went to Costco to fill it that day and it was $115 for 30 days!

Consider yourself fortunate.

My wife paid $621 at CVS.

The other pharm near us had it listed at $515 (Walmart).

But we already had bought it at that point.

Unfortunately she now has a 30 day supply and the end of the year is just 26 days away.

I don’t think they will let her renew the prescription before the end of the year.

My youngest son at 53 began having heart failure in July 2024. We live in Rome, NY. He was referred to the Cardiology department with Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY. It was determined he suffers from Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. October last year he underwent major surgery for a blockage in his intestines and suffered A-Fib twice while in the hospital. This past June, he ended back in the hospital with A-Fib. They tried to regulate his heart beat via meds, but they didn't work, so he had to have his heart shocked. He came home the next day. Fingers crossed...no problems since.

My son is on Social Security Disability since about 2022 because of permanent side-effects of the chemo treatments he received for Stage 3 colon cancer in 2019. He's been on Eliquis and Camzyos, prescribed by his Cardiologist, and gets both for free as his Cardiologist had him fill out paperwork to apply for those programs. They initially refused him for Camzyos as they recommended he try other meds before the Camzyos. His Cardiologist wrote the company that he'd already been on those meds and that they were not effective for the treatment of his condition, and Camzyos offered him the best treatment. I'm not familiar with the paperwork he completed. That was all done at one of his appointments. He has Medicare and supplemental health insurance that also covers the other meds he takes.

“Talk to your cardiologist about a Watchman ablation.”

I checked in to Watchman when I learned my Eliquis would be “lifelong”.

It’s a great thing for heart issues (AFib mostly), but my heart is fine. It won’t work for DVTs, which is my reason for the drug.

My friend had ablation for AFib in June 2024. She died in September.

“Eliquis used some kind of work around to get their protection from generic manufacturers when their patent ran out.”

That little underhanded trick happened mid-January 2023, and was I ever pissed.

I take Eliquis & when I started, that was my same predicament. I could go broke in short order with a deal like that. If you are a veteran, you should be able to get it from a VA pharmacy MUCH cheaper. I pay $33 for a 90 pill supply.

I had to take Elliquis for a blood clot adn the price was very salty. Also not covered by insurance.

HOWEVER, the company offered a coupon that dropped the price like 90 percent.

So check into that.

Fortunately I did not have to take it forever.
