“We’re gonna be issuing dividends later on, somewhere prior to — the middle of next year, a little bit later than that,” he said, noting it would include “Thousands of dollars, for individuals of moderate income.”

[Scott] Bessent also floated a rough income limit of $100,000 that would disqualify higher income families from receiving the dividend.

I have a business degree with an accounting major. My senior year I did volunteer income tax returns for low income people. I was surprised to learn that “low income” is anyone/couple who earn $100,000 or less.

Should go to pay down the debt which would help a lot if the government would drop all welfare programs, entitlement programs and all subsidies

Ditto that.

My wife is an RN with pre-tax income of about $125K/year.

We pay LOTS of taxes.
We are NOT wealthy.

More smoke and mirror gibs me dats for folk who pay next to nothing in taxes, overall.

Screwed again, just like the “No taxes on Social Security” BS.

The talk of Doge Dividends is but a distant memory. Looks like the wife and I will be over the limit for the Tariff Dividend. Good thing we haven’t spent it.

It pisses me off. First, it shouldn’t be done at all. Second, much of it will go to those who don’t pay taxes. ThirdI am sick to death of the GOP buying into the notion that the government should be picking winners and losers. I pay 40 grand a year in federal income tax and FICA. Don’t give away money that should go to reducing the deficit but, if you insist, I’m someone who actually has skin in the game. Why am I cut out?

Part of me does actually grasp the political expediency.

But over and over again, I have to keep asking? Why do *I* keep having to pay for it?

Like, “no tax on tips” — OK, fine. Maybe it lured enough voters to reject CommieLa. And hey - back in my very young days? I tended bar and waited tables, too. So I get it.

But, after a lifetime of working hard, striving, and yes - now making good money? How about tossing *ME* a bone for a change?

I enjoy going out to eat. I tip well - mostly because I *do* remember how hard I worked BITD and how much (or how little) I made.

I am ALWAYS in favor of getting the government’s greedy paws off money...

So, what about pairing “No tax on tips” with allowing ME to claim a deduction for those untaxed tips? Fine, cap it, whatever.

But... if those “tips” are ultimately coming out of MY pocket? How about you let me just claim those tips as nontaxable income? I’m 100% willing to keep all my receipts and even fill out a form.

Yes, the whole intent of the tariffs was to reduce the debt! While the $2000 would be nice, the debt will still remain.

Preparing tax returns for 30 years has turned me into an unabashed cynic.

Amen.

My wife and I have done well. I would say we’re “comfortable”, not wealthy, but nobody handed it to us.

But damn, man. For the last 25 years now... it feels like *everything* from *everybody* is just set up to screw us, tax-wise.

We don’t need the government’s *help* — we just want a reality where we aren’t the beast of burden constantly paying more and more taxes to help the ‘less fortunate’ below us.

Yeah, I’m very much a capitalist and I very much believe in personal responsibility — but from *both sides now*, it just feels like we’re the forgotten beast of burden, expected to pay ever more taxes with no benefit.

Exactly!

Initially, the intent of Tariffs by our Founding Fathers was to FUND THE GOVERNMENT.

That lasted until 1912, which, in itself is pretty remarkable, based upon Human Nature and the GREED of Mother Government and her minions.

But it’s been downhill for, ‘We The People’ ever since. :(

Taxation is THEFT! Government-caused Inflation is THEFT!

If you are going to do this it really should be $125,000. That is middle class now.

A reasonable stance. You give your check to whomever you want and I’ll keep mine.

He had to do this because chamber of traitor assholes took tariffs to SCOTUS.
This brings in congress to “legitimize” the tariffs. Trump shouldn’t have had to do this.
