THINKING OF MOVING

Posted on 11/06/2025 12:28:20 PM PST by 7thson

I have some questions that I want to run by my fellow Freepers, but a little context first.

The man who put a $45,000.00 bounty on Pam Bondi - Tyler Maxon Avalos - was released with no bail though "under strict conditions: a GPS ankle monitor, nightly curfew, restricted internet use, and mandatory mental health treatment. He is barred from possessing firearms or alcohol and cannot leave Minnesota while awaiting trial."

The man who threw a sub sandwich at a Federal LEO, today was found not guilty of a misdemeanor.

I live in Virginia and after Tuesday, I see this state on a fast track in becoming NYC, Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Philadelphia, etc. I see lawlessness coming big time in Virginia - in Richmond, the Norfolk area, and the Northern Virginia Metro area.

I am now thinking of moving to Tennessee, My questions - am I running away from the problem? By moving, am I giving up? By moving, am I just making it easier for the lawless Dems to import more criminals in Virginia?

I have been giving the possibility of moving out of NM serious thought for the past couple of years. This has been a dem run state forever but it’s gotten really bad the past few years. The crazies are definitely in charge now. The way I see it is there comes a time when you need to pack up and leave. Fighting nutcases isn’t the best way to spend your golden years.

I moved to rural NW Tennessee from Tampa, FL four years ago - after having lived in Tampa for 35 years. I’ve been quite happy with the change. It’s almost been like going back in time to the 1950’s. If you’re considering NW Tennessee drop me a message and I’ll provide some good details.

I disagree with you concerning the sandwich, for the sole reason that those who use a toy gun for a robbery are charged and convicted as if they used a real gun. Yes, it was a sandwich but the intent was to cause harm. It could just as well as be a glass of acid or some other toxic substance that could cause damage.

“This guy has very short political vision. You need to start looking west of the Mississippi. In Kansas we can help the cops shoot the bad guy, if you pay a fee.”

Sort of like buying a hunting license.

It was a sandwich. If it were one of the other you listed everything would be different. You do not want a government that elevates the mundane in order to achieve stiffer penalties.

If you split the state along the route of US 15, you would have a deep red state, Charlottesville excepted, to the west and South Maryland to the east (or Baja New Jersey), the Middle Peninsula excepted. I wonder that since West Virginia was formed out of Virginia, if the terms of admission to West Virginia permits counties in western Virginia to join that state without Congressional approval or the consent of Richmond.

I visited Wyoming back in September 2021 - Jackson Hole to be exact. I screwed up with the hotel reservations and got a motel in Driggs, Idaho, so I drove back and forth over a mountain range nearly every day. I loved it. While there, I spoke with a woman who worked as a real estate agent. She told me that home prices are sky rocking in the area due to people moving from the left coast. I think though that I could see myself living in either Idaho or Wyoming.

Why Tennessee? Taxes? Tennessee has many infrastructure concerns, it’s not a type of Florida or Texas. Businesses don’t generally thrive in Tennessee. Some do... Industry? Mmm not really. Beautiful place, wouldn’t want to be old there (elder care is lacking too.

Or you could just stay in Virginia and cry baby about it everyday on FR. 😆

Look at New York state. Their government enacts a gun-control law. The Supreme Court strikes it down. The New York government turns right around and enacts another gun control law, knowing it will take several years to get to the Supreme Court. During that time, the New York state, city, and county police work to enforce the current law.

You and I need a grant for studying the ballistics of bananas before I can answer that.

“We are in SW Va so we are far removed from “the troubles”.

Except 81 is a narcotics super highway... and there are many towns along that corridor experiencing a significant drug problem and all the crime that goes with it. Lots of moose-limb action as well.

I have a grandson who lives in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and whom I have visited several times since he moved there. I like it very much.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it, depending on your immediate area. I live in a deep Red area of a swing state, and I love it here. Just stay away from the liberal part of my rural township where Trump only won by an 84%-16% margin in 2024. :-O

It seems like everyone is moving to Tennessee. Which is why I am moving out. Just one week and I’ll be in the gorgeous home I bought in Louisiana.

People have been flooding into Tennessee for years now, mostly escaping blue states like California and New York. They’ve turned our cities blue. The local Democrats (who are way more like Zell Miller than Obama or AOC!) have been complaining about how “the granola crowd from California have taken over the Dem party here in Knoxville for over a decade.

You’re more than welcome here, but be aware the massive influx of blue state escapees has caused outrageous traffic and sky high real estate and rental costs. Our granola mayors have accepted bus loads of homeless from NYC, so we got a sudden explosion of homeless druggies the city was not equipped to deal with and they are pushing their stolen shopping carts down highways and streets and ODing in parking lots in the good parts of town where you never used to see a single poor person, let alone homeless druggies.

I can’t wait to get out of Tennessee! I was born here, grew up here. It’s changed beyond recognition. You may love it here, as you have no memory of how it used to be and how all the Yankees and Left Coasters have ruined our once friendly and polite towns.

There are beaucoup videos on You Tube about Californians moving here. It really is a thing.

If you have any questions, let me know! I’ll do my best to answer any you may have.

I’ve lived all over the country and been all oer the world.

Now live in Spokane, WA. Best place ever. The South Hill area has beautiful homes and a terrific senior complex where I’ve lived for 18 years. Sidewalks shoved, maintenance comes instantly to fix whatever. Walk to Safeway, Trader Joe and two locally owned markets. And 2 banks.

My daughter lives here now. Her husband died a couple of years ago, and she sold their huge house on 10 acres, bought a nice house not far from me. Her best friend since high school moved from CA to Spokane. She and her husband make tons of money as civil engineers. They live in very $$$$ neighborhood about a mile away.

IOW, Spokane is safe, pleasant, friendly and has a lot to offer residents in eery price range. .
