The city survives by skimmings from Wall Street printed-money and debt trading, and from Fed.gov transfers.
The rest is from services like restaurants, entertainment and drug dealing.

Marx was a product of his time—and dreamed of workers seizing the factories of the industrial revolution.
Today manufacturing jobs are just 8% of total employment.
In New York City they are probably even a lower percentage.

Saved this thread from the legions here who apparently have never heard of Karl Marx, the Russian Bolshevik party or every stupid American university poli sci department from 1960 onwards.
Mam-nobody prattles dimwitted slogans from the 19th century that have resulted in the deaths of 100 million people, wars on all continents, and the destruction of major countries from Russia to Cambodia.
Of course they are covering for him.
Wars have consequences, well so does letting the left control universities. As far back as I can remember colleges have been predominantly democratic/socialistic and “independent” ( communist but afraid to admit it usually) staff, especially in the soft sciences. Today it’s about 25 to 1 in journalism, the one being republican.
Now we are seeing those effects in orgs like politifact.

Thanks for remembering that great Perot statement. And yes, with Mamdammit’s idiot plans in play, businesses will head for more reasonable places. Many residents will too. Tax base far down.
From LBJ and Nixon to city council and dog catcher I have heard politicians use phrases in cynical ways to please the immediate audience.
One question is how much is the new mayor of New York an ideologue and how much is he a pragmatist? On what issues is he willing to listen to other opinions in the coalition?
It’s the same with Trump. RFK and Tulsi Gabbard were not in the 2016-2020 MAGA coalition. Their ideas were not part of the coalition. But the coalition has had no trouble welcoming them and their ideas in 2023-2024-2025.
(At the same time, Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, Nick Fuentes are an embarrassment to the coalition and need to be told ADIOS.)
A similar situation exists in NYC, and in every coalition.
