2025 headed toward both record dog attack fatalities & record pit bull-inflicted fatalities
BAXLEY, Georgia; DAYTONA BEACH, Florida; NASHUA, New Hampshire; BACLIFF, TEXAS––Nine pit bulls killed four people in five days between October 8, 2025 and October 12, 2025.
That brought the 2025 U.S. dog attack death toll to 70, just five behind the record toll of 75 reached in 2024, with 52 confirmed deaths by pit bull, five behind the record toll of 57, reached in 2023.
The four most recent victims included three people who were killed by their own or their own family’s pit bulls, plus 86-year-old Maria D. Nunez of Baxley, Georgia. . . " . . .

Pit Bulls are the Muslims of the dog world
We are always told they are the dogs of peace.
I hope you rewarded her handsomely.
I have owned Rotts in the past. They are different. Mine was super sweet with me but its mood could turn on a dime. Mine stayed in my backyard and never roamed the streets.
Her job was to keep people out of my yard and she was good at it. No one ever tried to get back there. I will admit that I would not get another one now at my age as I just don’t truly trust them still.
I did indeed.
Shocked me that she had it in her, honestly.
The abuse she had suffered before the shelter caught her rendered her introverted, quiet and “ broken”.
Even after all these years of kindness, she still flinches and ducks if I forget and move too suddenly towards her head.

I got a new next door neighbor a few years ago that thought it would be great to get a pit bull. He would have his girlfriend take the dog out to defecate, as he couldn’t face the sunshine himself. When my wife was watering, the pit bull decided to run over to my wife and snip at her, she was scared shitless and wanted to make sure she wasn’t outside when the dog was after the incident. As an answer to prayer, they quit living there about a year ago, he drove head on into another car and died while high on methamphetamine and playing a video game on his phone. The Lord works in mysterious ways!
“The Dogs do what dogs do.”
That’s what this breed of dogs does. They could never form a cohesive pack and survive on their own like wolves or Carolina dogs (Native American dogs whose packs can survive in the wild).
They’d kill each other off because that’s what they’re bred to do.

Couple years ago they broke up a huge dog and cockfighting ring just over the river in WV.
None of the guys running it were named Jeff, Steve or Bill.

For us, it’s a drywall hatchet hammer. Long handle. 28 ounce cast iron head, hammer on one side, hatchet edge sharper than Satan’s Teeth on the other. You know, for up close and personal exchanges. Dogs are particularly sensitive to pain just behind the muscle mass on the front shoulders. Jamming a thumb into that spot drops a dog stone cold. Hit them there with a hammer and they are not getting up anytime soon. If that has not been the result, flip the hatchet over and slice away.
This is why I got a Maltese puppy a month ago.
She weighs 2.5 lbs at 5 months age. But she can run fast!

Always follow rule #1, and the odds drop significantly.
Fire extinguishers, aimed into the mouth and/or nose to obstruct breathing, thus causing the dog to open the mouth, have been found to be almost as effective as firearms in stopping an attack.
I carry a fire extinguisher with me at all times for this very reason.
I used to wonder who would win in a fight....a mean strong pit bull or one of those African Hyenas.
I googled it. Experts were unanimous. The Pit Bull would last about 30 seconds before the Hyena crushed it’s bones. Their jaw strength is like 3 times a pit bull .....they can chew up bones. Another guy simply said.......dude, Hyenas fight Lions. Oh yeah....nevermind.
