Do people on SNAP not get their November benefits?
A question from my cleaning lady | Oct. 29, 2025 | Me, Myself & I

Posted on 10/29/2025 12:49:47 PM PDT by EinNYC

Will SNAP benefits not be issued in November due to the government shutdown? My cleaning lady, a cancer survivor receiving SNAP (she desperately needs it) just asked me, and I don't know. Does any FReeper definitively know?

The system absolutely needs to be fixed. I completely agree, it is broken. But we cannot just immediately shut it “ALL” off like folks are wanting. In the mean time the hunger is in our faces right now. That hunger is not going to wait until it is fixed.

"According to E, the woman is still under treatment and has very difficult days. I’ve never seen anything in EinNYC’s posts to suggest that the situation is other than just as she describes it. And all ‘E’ did was ask a simple question. She didn’t deserve the crappy treatment she’s gotten on this thread."

I'm not reading other posts, but I myself posted nothing "crappy" to EinNYC. I don't know her (?), but on this thread, she (?) said that she's given a lot to this other woman. Post #15 made me a little concerned. Now, she has posted that she herself has a serious health problem and she's retired. When a retired person with health problems tells you that she's been giving a lot to someone else, you should ask some questions.

I hope the woman who survived cancer does well. If the woman is terminally ill, then I'm glad she's receiving help from good people. But EinNYC didn't say the woman still has cancer. She said the woman takes "anticancer drugs." Many of us survivors take medication after chemo/radiation. It doesn't mean we still have cancer. So, I asked some questions that a good person would ask.

Government “charity” is anything but charity, that’s for certain as you have observed. SNAP is automated, and.. in place much like a whole lot else of the “subsidy” government assistance which turns immediately into permanent support payments which are not taxed, or needs tested or require any effort to work to pay back.

These are political decisions to support a voting bloc, generally speaking, and easily abused obviously when the figures are examined. EBT for example has apparently only 2 or 3 inspectors in each state- to determine if the system is being defrauded (especially by grocery stores, large and small). EBTs cashed in for cash “purchases” which are not purchased and the owner converts the “item” into inventory and gets cash to the cardholder— this is a criminal network countrywide.

What is true is that compassion for an individual biblically is one to one, not government provided.

Imagine an entire life of subsidized housing, food, tax credits for children that turn into payments from the govt. to those who earn no living whatsoever. And SNAP an EBP and WIC and agriculture mega-business lobbied subsidies to their production (to offset milk price supports, ethanol creation from corn- which also affects corn price and fuel prices. All interlinked). Meanwhile, a vast proportion of everyday working people are on the hook for these subsidies— within very narrow gross and net incomes.

Quite annoying to run into the “pastor” lifestylers who preach and live on the dole of life.... there are a large number in many communities, famous for the lifestyle. One in GA ran for Senator and one— and he is a Marxist— all about sharing someone else’s wealth (as all Socialists have always done).

It is a personal decision to help others well defined in need. It is a clever career in the era of click money and go fund this and that... which opens up vast possibility of fraud, and theft.

Please... Are you actually so obsessed with discrediting every user here who doesn’t follow the herd mentality? Do those fine details actually matter that much to you? “You drew out of the lines!” Do you not have a life other than to nitpick everything to death? I was fortunate my wife wasn’t mentally obsessed like that. I would not have stayed married for 40 years... :)

That is exactly right, I have met a lot of bums in the Clergy. I worked first and preached on the side. Many are very happy to get rich from the Church and never actually work. “God wills it you owe me...”

“Sorry, we ran out of food to give away.” Yet the Pastor is driving a brand new Cadillac Escalade and owns three homes...

Why do you need to ‘ask questions’?

All ‘E’ asked was whether SNAP would be available to recipients in November.

She didn’t ask you to contribute.

This is why we have needed, for a long time, to return to basics. As you said, to make things from scratch, be it whipped cream or bread or homemade fries. Everything processed (and “easy”) is typically more expensive, too.

The older generation knew how to make food stretch and how to get creative. Rice, beans and pasta go a lot further than a frozen pizza. They also used what they had on hand. I really believe people need to get back to those things, and it wouldn’t hurt to buy a can or two extra of something to create a stockpile, however modest.

A “Good Person” gives benefit of the doubt... Especially if it doesn’t even really matter anyhow...

I still have not figured this species out yet...

Thank you for being one of the most intelligent of the species and having the Moxy to stand up for what you believe. It really is a rare thing... :)

I am retired. That means I don't get up early to go teach any more. It doesn't make me any different from any other person. I have had some serious recent health problems, yes. But thank G-d, I'm still here. Did you think I'm giving away all my belongings, to my cleaning lady, because I anticipate not needing them for very long? That's certainly not MY plan, LOL. I am doing my best to take my meds, follow a low carb/high protein diet, attend a cardio rehab program, and enjoy my friends and neighbors.

...she's been giving a lot to someone else...

I am giving what I can afford to give, to various charities. We are enjoined by Jewish law to give to charity. Are you viewing that as perhaps a harbinger to suicide?

Not to worry.

Absolutely. I personally already eat that way... Been doing it for 64 years. How many HERE actually do I wonder? See to preach it is not the same as actually living it. I suspect you do, but there are a whole bunch here who preach this but do not live it themselves.

Tonight was homemade Corned Beef hash. Six large Potatoes and one small onion fried, and one can of Corned Beef. Since I am alone now that is three meals for me. I will switch off between this and the “Chile Rellenos” Casserole I made yesterday. This will feed me for six days with cereal tossed in for breakfast.

Two meals a day, fit and trim... And the cost of all was about fifteen bucks.

There are plenty of people here who are ‘preppers’. We used to have a thread devoted to it.

Yep, I know... Pollard is the greatest isn’t he? I started the second “prepper” domain on the net about 25 years ago. It was my first domain. On and off I have been living off grid since 2000. Living back off grid right now. I am a Campfire Cowboy Chuck Wagon Cook extraordinaire... lol

No really, I grew up on a ranch doing it since a kid and had good teachers. So putting together cheap meals for a lot of people is something I have done all my life... It is really easy for myself as one. I’m not picky, I do not need a whole different extravagant meal every night of the week. Once or twice a week I make a big batch of something different and freeze it meal sized and dole it out to myself alternating through the weeks and month. :)

So I have to ask... Are those preppers actually practicing preppers?

I’m sure they are; I’m also sure they don’t all advertise about it.

You two are being ridiculous.

I have never followed a herd mentality, and I don’t follow the herd here, either.

I asked the OP a question. I don’t know why Jamestown answered, but she continued to take offense, so I had to keep explaining my post. 🙄

If I told people I was giving money to someone else, I would expect them to ask questions - if they cared.

Now, I don’t care, so do whatever you want. LOL.

A lot of people here who are preppers are perfectly willing to help others in need.

But they know the world and aren’t stupid.

I received your freepmail, and I was going to reply privately... until I saw these last three posts to me.

You sent me an explanation of the woman’s condition. What you didn’t know is that I had the same condition and side effects; my battle was brutal with multiple complications and surgeries; and I took the same medicine (yes, it’s spelled differently) followed by other medications for many years. I wasn’t raising one kid; I was raising three, and I was divorced. Many women have the same story. You don’t have to feel sorry for us. We are strong people, and we are fortunate to be alive.

But I am not offended by your concern for survivors of this cancer. I see that you mean well, and you just want to be kind to this woman.

However, you and two others here took offense at my concern for you. So, do whatever you want with your money. I don’t care now. LOL.

Well if ebt-er’s have had their collective heads in the sand they may not have known for at least a month that this was going to happen.

The government shut down has been sang, chanted and harangued by the democrat’s as the end of the world.

Suck it up folks, I will not believe that any American will starve. I know for a fact that any person who is hungry who go’s to any church will be fed. Any who think other wise still have their heads either still in the sand or up their a——.

Flour salt water and yeast makes bread.

Here’s a lady who knows how to do it well.
