The internet is heavily built on central repositories, everybody loves putting the load somewhere else. Unplug one thing and lots of stuff dies. I remember when Google Analytics (the service used to decide how much advertisers have to pay sites) crashed, the internet was basically dead. Commercialization has basically broken the entire model the internet was built on. It used to be all about redundancy and no single point of failure. Now we’ve got half a dozen non-redundant single points of failure.
