As great as I found director Scott Cooper’s Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, nothing about its box office failure is surprising. And it is not only a failure; it is a shocking failure for box office analysts who projected an opening as high as $25 million with a $15 million worst case.
Well, as of this morning, the groomers at the Disney Grooming Syndicate are wishing that worst-case scenario had come about, because Deliver Me from Nowhere is staring into the abyss of a pathetic $9 million weekend debut and a humiliating fourth-place finish.
According to various reports, Nowhere cost $60 million to produce, at least another $50 million to promote, which means Disney will need to gross at least $200 million worldwide just to break even
That ain’t happening.
So, what did happen? How did a biopic about Freddie Mercury gross almost $1 billion worldwide? Bob Dylan’s biopic grossed $140 million. Elton John hit $195 million. Springsteen will be lucky to gross half of Dylan’s $140 million worldwide.

Perhaps The Boss' time has passed.
Cause Freddy was a bad ass
Tramps like him were born to bomb.
Bob Dylan and Freddie Mercury came across as authentic, that’s why.
I never liked him or his music even way before I found out about his politics..............
Looks like Bruce is morphing into Lyle Lovett.
People liked Freddy. He was an entertainer. He entertained.................

So, what did happen? How did a biopic about Freddie Mercury gross almost $1 billion worldwide?
———-
Because Freddie…for all of his faults, was a sympathetic character who asked for forgiveness and got redemption.
Springsteen was good for his first few albums. Then he became an “artist.” I think he believed his own press releases.
Freddie also died before social media. I am sure he would have been as insufferable as all of the others had he lived longer.
Springsteen became a billionaire superstar, telling those guys, I get you, I empathize, so I got something for you. Okay, it’s only three-and-a-half minutes, but if you turn up the volume, roll down the windows, and let your hair flow back, you’ll feel the magic in the night and forget all about that Monday morning work whistle.
That guy, that Bruce Springsteen, couldn’t fail. But then he turned on his fans and sold out. As their factories went overseas and a flood of illegal aliens stole their jobs, crushed their wages, and raised their rents, those guys dared to stop voting the way The Boss demanded, so he stabbed them in the back—he declared them fascist and racist because they voted for Donald Trump.
A Springsteen biopic? They found something to build a story around? Being from New Jersey isn’t enough.
The title alone does not inspire confidence. “Deliver Me from Nowhere?” Weak. Sad.
It could be because his music sucks and his politics are even worse but they’ll never figure that out. They couldn’t pay me to see it.
People like to talk about the Dixie Chick but never remember what brought them down was not their trash talk on politics but their declaring that their fans were a "bunch of bambi killing rednecks and we don't want them to like our music".
That was it. After that they were dead to country music.
You tell people you hate them and they are going to go off and find someone who does not hate them. There will be little drama because honestly, you ain't all that or a bag of chips. There are other artists, artists that actually will take your money and not insult you to your face.
Ditto.
This is at the same time that there are absolutely no movies out there. There is nothing for which to go to the movie theater
Every person I talk to, catching up w friends, relatives, everyone says they’ve never seen a case where absolutely nothing to playing.
I won’t see this movie same as when I got asked to go see Springsteen in Boston in 1979. No interest.
I know his story. I’ve spent more time than most at the Jersey Shore. I know people who knew him growing up. My sister lives near him now. I know he used to play incognito at a local bar. I saw him crash a Jackson Browne concert
He dumped his wife for a band mate
He hates Trump
I’m not interested in anyone’s bio who publicly, loudly, persuasively hates Trump.
There’s nothing there.
But that’s just me
>a joke now, like ‘Bono’
Pushed by Rolling Stone magazine for years (which shunned Led Zeppelin), this hack has been flogging the same stuff for fifty years.
Born to Run is the third studio album by the American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen, released on August 25, 1975.
Got tired of picking Bruce’s spuds out of our teeth in the last century, and hearing him scold about not killing the yellow man and what a drag it was in the rust belt and how great democrats are ... retire old timer.
I never understood his popularity. I was in NY for 3 weeks 40+ years ago. When one of his songs played, everyone sang along. I returned the favor a coyote months later in Chicago. When a ZZ Top song came on, I sang along to it, to the amazement of my fellow trainees. They couldn’t understand it, lol.
Check out Angel studios. They’re making some excellent movies.
We’ve seen two in the last month.
