Fears for CNN star Christiane Amanpour, 67, as she reveals ovarian cancer has returned for THIRD time
Daily Mail UK ^ | October 24, 2025 | NATASHA ANDERSON, SENIOR US NEWS REPORTER

Veteran CNN broadcaster Christiane Amanpour has revealed that she has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer for the third time.

Amanpour, 67, revealed her diagnosis on the Changing the Ovarian Cancer Story podcast on Thursday, but said it is 'being very well managed'.

'I obviously had all of the relevant organs removed, but it came back a couple times in a lymph node,' she told host Hannah Vaughan Jones.

Amanpour's oncologist explained that she has a rare type of ovarian cancer that makes up less than 10 per cent of cases.

'Most women, by the time they get a diagnosis, might have had the cancer for three or four years before it actually gets diagnosed,' Dr Angela George told the show.

George said that ovarian cancer does not have many 'specific symptoms' and is often 'misdiagnosed for quite a long time'.

'I was potentially lucky because there were actually pain symptoms,' Amanpour said. 'There's often no symptoms so many women don't know, so I feel that I was lucky.'

The journalist is currently undergoing immunotherapy, which she said has had no side effects and is the 'opposite of grueling'.

My brother is a cancer research guy and mentioned to me once that if and when cancer comes back it’s a much more vicious animal.

Yes, it is. The cancer that survives is the cancer cells that survived the chemo and radiation therapies and it therefore stronger and more difficult to treat.

I believe that the reoccurrence of cancer is because they didn’t ‘get it all’ the first time and even one tiny cell left will multiply over time to be a problem..............

It has survived the earlier treatment so it is naturally stronger..

She’s not my cup of tea. As a cancer survivor myself though, I wish her well. The cards are against her.

Unlike the leftist who could be cheering for the demise of a right-wing personality, I hope for her complete recovery.

It looks, from the excerpt, that they did full surgical removal, initially, and it has metastasized to her lymph nodes. I don’t know how they know it is the same cancer.

Maybe she’ll get great treatment like the Israelis held prisoner by Hamas for 2 years.

After my husband’s cancer came back, he had surgery and then a second surgery 2 weeks later to remove his lymph nodes.

STILL cancer free!!! ✝️ ❤️

Immunotherapy or theraputic tumor vaccines are the future of cancer therapies. If you unfortunately get a cancer and it is surgically removed, don’t let the surgeon discard the tumor.Keep it and freeze it. That tumor contains cancer antigens that are alien to your body. But are protected from your immune system by tumor cytokines and tumor surface proteins that defend the tumor from obliteration from your immune system. Those antigens might be harvested from your saved tumor, combined with an immune modulator such as urochiol and be made into a cutaneous anti tumor vaccine.
