In India, some of the biggest jobs in tech come to you.
Graduates of the Indian Institute of Technology (ITT), one of the country’s most prestigious universities, are recruited directly by Indian companies as well as American firms looking to lock down some of the world’s top talent in fields that will dominate the future, such as artificial intelligence and robotics.
Many of them also continue their studies in the United States, where India overtook China last year as the biggest source of foreign students. But policy decisions and other moves by the Trump administration, including the recently announced $100,000 fee for the H-1B skilled immigrant work visa, now have those graduates thinking twice about going to America.
“About 20 students are graduating from my department, and nearly 10 to 15 have a postdoctoral offer from the U.S.,” said Ajaykumar Udayraj Yadav, a materials science and engineering doctoral candidate working on energy storage systems, who is among the student volunteers at the Office of Career Services at IIT’s New Delhi campus.
“But the way they’re seeing the situation develop in the U.S., these students are unwilling to take them up,” he said.

U.S. tech leaders who once held H-1B visas include Satya Nadella, the chairman and chief executive of Microsoft; Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Google and its parent company, Alphabet; and Elon Musk.

“China welcomes outstanding talent from all industries and sectors around the globe to come to China, take root in China, and work together to advance human society,” foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun told reporters in Beijing last month.

Trump’s $100,000 is like Putin’s demand for all of Donetsk, unrealistic.
You may think Trump is tough, and wonderful, but Congress will give into the demands of the leading corporations.
What I have suggested is a monthly and then weekly auction system, where the bids with the greatest premiums to standard pay by degree and years of experience would be the winners. My suggested minimum premium is 20%.
I also suggest the imposition of periodic fees that are higher on lower salaries and younger H-1Bs. These fees might also be levied on H-1Bs already here.
But they’re white.
Who freaking cares? Send em packing:
It’s their sole mission in life. They only hire and promote other Indians. They also do it bigly in Hong Kong and Singapore and I’m sure other countries stupid enough to let them in.
“H1-B visa shake-up crushes the American dream for Indian students”
________________________________________
H1-B visa shake-up revitalizes the American dream for American citizen students.
My American citizen family voted for both statements to become true. Let it be!
Yes.
Off-shoring IT is another part of the equation. I could see further expansion to get around a $100K per H1-B visa. Would not be surprised if some of the low wage off-shore IT today are leveraging that experience to make connections as a launching point for an H1-B, or to get to Canada, then to US.
MIGA!
Make India Great Already!...................
they should stay and pursue their dreams in India. Please.
You are correct. The bait and switch they pulled on America is disgusting. This ‘reform’ does nothing but encourage more H1B visas.
How about the American dream for Americans? They have convinced the young that it is out of their reach, but they’re more worried about the American dream for foreigners. Jackasses.
How about pursuing Indian Dream for Indian students? MIGA?
India was never great. The British had to teach them how to wipe their asses.
There are many American doctors who were pro-forced vaxx, pro-mask, and pro-shutdown.
Many American physician organizations are anti-gun, pro-abortion, pro-gender assignment surgery for minors. The American Association of Pediatrics is particularly noxious. https://www.aap.org/en/advocacy/
I know many American doctors are pro-euthanasia but they just hide behind “compassion.” Indeed, it wasn’t a pile of ferignerz who killed Terry Schaivo.
Yeah, foreign doctors aren’t all MAGA folks. But the revealed preference for American doctors herein is quite telling. I’d rather have a foreign doctor who values individual rights vs some Karen from Iowa who wants to give puberty blockers to Timmy without parental consent.
Brian - Your suggestion seems to be a variation of Trump’s, with more variables to verify and satisfy. His is quite simple to implement, without getting into the weeds as to the degree, experience, age, lower salariy levels, etc.
But to your bigger point, Congress won’t go along with Trump, then I would not see it going along with yours either.
I hope you are wrong. America is being colonized and our freedom is at stake here. We have a techno caste system with it’s own laws and pseudo global govt.
The H-1B visa is it’s primary tool.
Send em home.
The Indian doctors in America are job thieves. They should be back in India curing dysentery and making the water safe to drink for their people.
Without defining “greatness”, what is now India cannot be discarded out of hand.
Though it cannot be verified with absolute certainty, the mathematical construct of the number “zero” is believed by many to have originated in what is now India, and made its way to the Middle East, where the European traders picked up on it after the Roman Empire.
The number zero is one of the world’s greatest inventions. And it applies to nearly every demonkkkrap.
Here’s a modest proposal.
Some of us will take the competent foreign doctors who respects our rights.
Y’all can take the Schaivo killers and Doctors Brandon and Karen from Michigan. After all, they’re Merican.
You might consider them to be one of you, but they don’t think you are one of them.
