How To Win A War In 37 Hours: Daily Wire Goes Inside Whiteman Air Force Base
Daily Wire ^ | Sep 27, 2025 | Mary Margaret Olohan

KNOB NOSTER, MISSOURI — President Donald Trump shocked the world with his announcement on the evening of Saturday, June 21: the United States had successfully attacked three nuclear sites in Iran, and the B-2 bombers who had completed this incredibly secretive mission were on their way home.

“Congratulations to our great American Warriors,” the president shared in a triumphant Truth Social post. “There is not another military in the World that could have done this.”

It was an incredible victory for Trump 2.0 in more ways than one: Operation Midnight Hammer had been executed without a single leak to the ever-eager White House or Pentagon press. But how, exactly, had this Hollywood-esque mission been accomplished? And who were the people who made it run so smoothly?

The Daily Wire ventured out to a small Missouri town called Knob Noster, which houses Whiteman Air Force Base, to learn about America’s most elusive bomber program: the 509th Bomb Wing, one of only two Air Force units to operate the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber. This unit has the unique ability to launch their bombers straight from Missouri to any spot on the globe.

With rare access to pilots and commanders, The Daily Wire learned how a single mission—planned in silence and executed with breathtaking speed—reshaped the conversation about modern warfare through the largest B-2 strike in United States history.

Only 21 of these B-2 planes were ever made: one crashed and one was damaged, but the rest are housed at Whiteman Air Force Base, the only home of the B-2 stealth bomber. The concept of the plane was conceived back in 1979, at the height of the Cold War, when the United States military had planes that could drop bombs, planes that were stealth, and planes with long ranges, but none that could...

I lived on Whitman when I was just a tyke when my dad was in SAC. I still have two vivid memories. One was when a fully fueled B47 crashed on take off. The explosion was deafening. Sadly the crew and several firefighters were killed.

The second was the Cuban Missile Crisis. The base went on alert. I never saw my dad move as fast as he did that day.

I’m surprised that the usual suspects haven’t demanded that Whiteman Air Force Base be renamed. The name could cause mental distress to African Americans.

I nominate the name The Ocrazio-Cortex Air Force base.

Our enemies would be Ocrazio to challenge us, especially as long as President Trump is in the Oval Office.

Great article, however, “ How to win a war”, really? The rub with Iran has barely begun.

I was living at MCAS Beaufort. Your dad moved fast? My dad's entire squadron disappeared!

No one knew to where until we read the Sunday funnies.

Milton Caniff drew an out the window view of Homestead Airbase for a Steve Canyon episode. Sticking out the the hangers were the tails of F-8's with my dad's squadron markings!

FWIW Whiteman AFB was named after one of the few Air Corps aviators that tried to get off the ground on Dec 7. He was shot down just after taking off to confront the attackers and died.

Thanks. I figured that it was named for someone deserving of the honor, but just anticipating the reasoning of Democrats.

You’ve got your nuclear bomber, and you’ve got your anti-nuclear bomber. Balanced.

No, no, I get your point and agree. The dims could care less about the facts and the name encompasses everything they loathe.
