Hamburger Helper Sales Rise as Americans Try to Stretch Their Food Dollars
The New York Times ^ | Sept. 20, 2025 | Julie Creswell

In the 1970s, Hamburger Helper became a staple on American dinner tables as families, strained by inflation and soaring beef prices, looked to turn a pound of ground beef into an entire meal.

These days, those same pressures are why the flavored pasta mix is coming to the rescue again.

While most food companies are seeing declines in consumer demand for their products, sales of Hamburger Helper are up 14.5 percent in the year through August, getting an extra bump from its appearance on an episode of “The Bear” in June, according to the company that owns the brand, Eagle Foods.

Try shredded cabbage and carrots for salads, they last longer in the fridge than lettuce, yogurt is easy to make.

Korger tracks sausage sales, and when they eclipse meat, specifically hamburger chubs (on a basis that takes too long to describe), they lean into value pricing all beef. That said, there were zero sales on meat at Korger a fat minute ago, so the TrumpII economy is bustin' out.

Yep. For 2, half pound ground beef drained. Can of cream of mushroom, add milk. Cook to heat and add cooked egg noodles. Mix. Or use cooked, sliced potatoes instead of noodles.

Switch cream of mushroom to fiesta cheese soup and egg noodles to elbow. Cheeseburger Helper.

Serve with veggie or salad.

True. I feel sorry for children today who go hungry. When the school lunch program began it was a supplement. Now they have breakfast and lunch and when the funding is not given it is said a lot of the kids had to food from home to replace it.

As of 2023, an estimated 14 million children are going hungry
or eating too little for proper nutrition (and brain use in school) which is called “food insecure.”

841,000 children are in “very low food security” status, which is a term for starving.

While tens of millions of us adults are worrying about being too fat.

USDA on this.

“Our dog is jealous’ of the cat food our cats get.”

Our Morning Routine is this:

Cats come in from their nightly prowls. (We live on a farm, 2 miles to the nearest road; they are in no danger) and the two cats share a can of cat food in their respective bowls.

Whatever is ‘left over’ and it’s never much, goes on Dolly’s ‘Old Dog Formula’ kibble.

And PEACE reigns in the Kingdom for another day. :)

Last time I checked which was a long time ago, Hamburger Helper was more expensive than ground meat.

Dry pinto beans. One pound can be stretched out. Mix in tomato sauce, spices and small amount of ground beef. Serve with fried sliced potatoes.

Or one pound hamburger, tomato sauce and paste, spices and mix. One box spaghetti noodles cooked. Mix in. Stretch it out a week. Serve with toasted garlic bread and salad.

Yes, that is a major problem. There are single servings but they are really expensive and it makes my soul hurt to use them.

We ate a lot of refried beans and tortillas. Sometimes just tortillas with butter.

Any tips on the NFL? Not to imply anyone here gambles, of course. Dogs can sense stuff.

Some science stuff.

Completely agree, but if you’re in a big hurry, the Hamburder Helper stroganoff is quite good

Yes, some of the HH flavors are very tasty. Quick and easy to make - and to clean up after! I am a very good cook, and would make it often if not for a diabetic at the table.

Same here, use to but quit, I’m ready to start again but I’m looking for the most automatic system around.
