US population decline sooner than expected as deaths to outpace births in America by 2031
The Economic Times ^ | September 20, 2025 | Maitreyee Thakkar

The US population is approaching a critical demographic milestone as deaths are now projected to exceed births as early as 2031, two years earlier than previously expected. This shift signals a trend toward near-zero population growth, raising concerns about the country's economic future and social support systems.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) updated its population projections in September 2025, attributing the accelerated timing mainly to declining fertility rates and tightened immigration enforcement resulting from the Trump administration’s recent immigration policies. The Trump-era One Big Beautiful Bill Act, with its aggressive immigration crackdown, is projected to reduce immigration flows significantly, further dampening population growth.

According to the CBO, from 2026 to 2029, about 290,000 immigrants are expected to be removed from the country under this new legislation, plus an additional 30,000 departures considered voluntary. This reduction in immigrant families, historically contributing higher birth rates, coupled with a natural decrease in fertility rates, accelerates the timing when deaths surpass births.

Currently, the US population stands around 350 million and was previously expected to grow to 372 million by 2055. These new projections estimate a smaller overall population of 367 million by that year. Moreover, the working-age population is expected to shrink, posing a risk to the labor supply critical for sustained economic growth.

The covid shot is doing its job. And many people just can’t afford to have children anymore. The costs involved have become staggering.

I am really curious as to what they mean by natural.

Everything I know about the decrease in the birthrate in this country is anything but natural.

The globalists view is that it’s easiest, not necessarily better, to just keep growing to infinity.

The globalists are the ones who have been funding Planned Parenthood to control population growth from the beginning. They also promote anti-natal policies like promotion of pornography, sexual perversion, easy divorce, export of working class jobs that pay a family wage, and higher costs through programs that increase the cost of education, transportation, shelter, health care and energy.

--- "Get rid of Social Security and Medicare. Then we'll be okay with a declining population."

Another in the thread termed the issue a conundrum.

Posting that gravy train as a simple image, there are those who pull the gravy train, and those who ride the gravy train.

Were those who pulled no longer be required to pull, they would instead pull their own weight. Those riding would find it necessary to pull their own weight, and some are most assuredly able to do so. Some refuse. Some will be wholly unable, and then we will see which churches and synagogues and mosques and philanthropic entities would actually assist. It would be a most interesting time.

My family has in the past and would come together to assist others in the extended family. So I wager we would be just fine. How would others fare? The ones who refuse to work?

"For even when we were with you, this we commanded you: that if any would not work, neither should he eat." 2 Thessalonians 3:10.

Charlie Kirk was a big proponent of couples getting married early and having children. I like to think that he influenced a lot of young people to do exactly this.

50 years have passed——

In 1975 USA population was 215 million.

In 1975 starter homes in cities across the USA were available for $25,000 to $50,000.

Post WW2 inflation began in the 1970’s.

So in 2025 is anybody really better off than 50 years ago when we take into account:

1. Population is now 350 million
2. Starter homes are now $250,000 to $500,000
3. National Debt is now over $37 trillion.
4. Farmland has become housing developments for the 135 million new residents of the USA.

End immigration and let us shrink a little, closer to the population that won WWII and was playing golf on the moon, and leading the world in everything.

We have an aging population. So if we are going to shrink our population, we'll end up becoming more like Japan.

Elon Musk is right. We need to grow our population. There's plenty of room in America as long as you don't live in NYC or LA.

Gee, somehow we won WWII with "only" 120 million people.

Women killing their babies is a huge problem. Same with women and "careers". Being born with a uterus is a strong hint from God for his plan.

The population pyramid was very different in 1940 compared to today.

We don’t need to grow our population, we have done that since 1970 and it killed us in almost every measure of life compared to America before this immigration.

We are already the 3rd most populated country on earth and we are like overcrowded rats destroying ourselves.

The entire population of the earth will be declining over the next 50 years as women in 3rd world countries figure out how to have fewer babies.

The U.S. is overpopulated? That's propaganda by the Left.

Just get on the highway and drive across America. It's a huge country and there are many places with literally no people in them.
