“This is misery,” Letterman, 78, said during a panel at the annual event, per Variety. “I feel bad about this.”
“We see where this is all going, correct?” he continued. “It’s managed media. And it’s no good. It’s silly. It’s ridiculous. And you can’t go around firing somebody because you’re fearful or trying to suck up to an authoritarian criminal administration in the Oval Office. That’s just not how this works.”
“In the world of somebody who is an authoritarian, maybe a dictatorship, sooner or later, everyone is going to be touched,” Letterman added.

And he violated FCC rules.
He’s been dead to me for awhile. I remember when he really seemed like a humble, earnest host on a day-time talk show he started on for NBC in the early 80’s. He was noticed for being an entertaining, just-out-of-college weatherman before that. But I think success soured him.
The left is winning the spin - “Kimmel was fired for his free speech” - and the right is feeding the beast - “That’s because he lied and is hateful.”
Ah, no.
ABC’s decision to pull the show came shortly after its affiliate group, Nexstar, also announced it would stop airing it effective immediately.
Nexstar, the largest station group in the country has a major merger proposal before the Trump administration - its proposed acquisition of Tegna - which must be approved by Carr.
If the merger were to go through, Nexstar would have 265 stations in 44 states and the District of Columbia, representing 80 percent of US television households, according to Deadline.
This was a business move, fueled by what seems to be an economic Sword of Damocles held by Chairman Carr. In reality, Carr gave the businesses cover to do what they always wanted to do.
Perry Sook, founder of Nexstar Media, had risen to become one of the most powerful, if least known, moguls in broadcast television. His company owns local stations from Tampa to Burlington to Portland, Oregon (and KTLA in Los Angeles), in addition to cable-news outlet NewsNation, Congressional trade The Hill and a majority stake in The CW. Sook hoped, he said, the country would soon be “eliminating the level of activist journalism out there.”

As for Kimmel violating the “public interest standard,” it’s not well-defined. You can drive a truck through it. https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4341186/posts
It could go either way. In any case, he’ll get his contract money but not back on broadcast tv. I never watched an episode. Just excerpts on other outlets. That was enough. Actually never watched any of the 3.
Jay Leno was picked to succeed Johnny, and it embittered Letterman for life.
He’s a sour pickle, bad Santa.
They quote Letterman as if he’s some type of senior statesman weighing in on an important issue. He’s not. He’s an old has-been who lost to Leno at every turn. Republish what Leno said. That’s much more relevant.
Go back under your rock Dave, you aren’t needed here. Managed media, eh? It’s okay as long as it’s controlled by the left though.
I haven’t cared a jot what Bitterman has to say and haven’t cared since at least 2005 when he came out of the closet as a very bitter, hateful Leftists.
Yep - because notice they didn’t fire him.
We know what’s on his “Top Ten List”. Of course, it’s important to note the media Dave worked in is in financial difficulty.
Gonna need the Bill Ackman billionaires who run our political system to bail them out.
It’s all fine and dandy until your ox is gored.
“Letterman hosted the show from 1993 until 2015, at which point Colbert took over post-”Colbert Report.” After Colbert announced on July 17 that “The Late Show” would be ending in May after more than 30 years, Paramount released a statement that called the move “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.”

Looks like a very similar situation happened to letterman.

From the museum of hard to believe to political trash
That is what late
Night “comedy” has become
Good riddance
Who? The guy who was banging the help?
Letterman SILENT when conservatives were being cancelled rendering recent concern WORTHLESS.
He’s still alive?
I’ll bet every time a drone flies over, he runs in the barn and hides.
Exactly! And criminal administration?! Where was letterman under Xiden and Obeyme?!
