Orcas are behaving strangely, lately.
Lately, there’s been a surge in incidents involving Orcas in the Oceans, from a pair of giant beasts killing 17 sharks in one day to a series of attacks on boats.
Now, it’s reported that a pod of killer whales has ‘repeatedly rammed and sunk’ a small yacht filled with tourists out on the coast of Portugal.
The targeted vessel was sailing off the coast of Fonte da Telha beach last Saturday, when the animals struck it.
Daily Mail reported:
“Footage shows several orcas chasing the boat before they start violently slamming against it, sending the sailors into a panic as one person shouts ‘Oh my God’.
The ship tilts dangerously from side to side before slowly submerging and sinking.”
The Portuguese National Maritime Authority stated that the sailboat belonged to the Nautic Squad club and carried five people, all tourists.
“A second recreational vessel, further north off Cascais, carried four people and also had to be assisted after encountering the same group of orcas.”

Nine people on board of the two boats were rescued by nearby vessels before the official lifeguards reached the scene.
“The Maritime Authority said the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre received the first alert at 12:30pm and dispatched lifeguards immediately. […] Some reported seeing a pod of four orcas, while another skipper said just one whale struck the rudder two or three times, causing cracks that let water flood in.”
Sailors are staying in port after it’s been revealed that the killer whales have shifted their yacht attacks to shallow waters.
Ever since 2019, the orcas have repeatedly targeted boats in the sea of Galicia, usually striking the rudder.
“Between 2020 and 2023 there were reportedly around 500 attacks.”

Mostly the orcas tend to ignore humans and their activities and simply go about their own ways.
This one pod it seems is the problem..........

If that’s the case...maybe she’ll get them to get sex changes too so they wont reproduce.
They must have learned that there are tasty snacks on board
A yacht must be longer than 45’ LOA, IIRC.
I wouldn’t favor killing them but maybe a taser might discourage their behavior.
We had a custom luxury van back when that fad was going and we called it our ‘Land Yacht’..................
I knew a guy that said he had salmon hiding from orcas under his small boat. He was scared spitless.
If it’s just one pod (at least so far), they should somehow get a tracking device onto one or more, then depth-charge the lot into red soup. Any survivors can spread the word.
I remember an ad in one of the big three magazines...Sports Afield, Field and Stream, Outdoor Life...that showed a commercial fisherman grabbing a marine shotgun, and a seal stealing a fish in the background.
I’m an outdoorsman. I run into all kinds of creatures. RESPECT Gods creation and you will not get killed. Oh. Pack a gun. Just in case.
I find them fascinating. Way more intelligent than we credit them with.

I’ve thought this myself. Wondered how many immigrants on tiny boats have been eaten.
Um, they're in saltwater. That's one hell of a capacitor.
it’s almost like the attacks are Orca-Straighted
