Tyler Robinson's father realized 'his son was shooter' after seeing family heirloom in media reports

The father of Charlie Kirk's alleged killer realized his son was the shooter after recognizing an unusual rifle shown in media reports of the hunt for the assassin, according to officials.

Matt Robinson allegedly told authorities that he and his wife became alarmed the day after Kirk was murdered in Utah, when they saw images of the suspect and the weapon he used on the news.

The shocked father recognized his own dad's gun in the images released by police, as Tyler Robinson's grandfather had given him the rifle as a gift before he used it to murder Kirk, officials said on Tuesday.

After recognizing the 'unique' gun, Matt Robinson texted his son, asking him for a picture of the family heirloom, which the suspect could not provide, according to police.

In a text exchanged between Tyler Robinson and his partner shared by police, the alleged killer claimed the rifle was the only evidence he left behind.

'If I am able to grab my rifle unseen, I will have left no evidence. Going to attempt to retrieve it again, hopefully they have moved on,' he allegedly wrote. 'I haven’t seen anything about them finding it.'

he should petition the court to get it back and they should let him have it if he wants it.

He can petition all he wants, he'll never get that rifle back. It was used in a high profile murder, and he'll most likely be dead and gone by the time Tyler gets his death sentence thus stopping any further legal proceedings. AI Overview In Utah, death row inmates average nearly 34 years before execution, a period extended by complex legal appeals and the lengthy nature of capital cases

My dad would’ve strangled me himself.

And I’d have earned it.

I wouldn’t want it back.

Horrible catch 22.

Thomas Crook’s father’s call about his missing son - and the missing gun - was one of the first hot clues in the investigation of President Trump’s attempted assassination, too.

I would destroy that gun, I wouldn’t care how much it would be worth.

It was a custom rifle that had a two-thousand dollar scope on it. It was the kid’s grandfather’s, per his texts with his roommate/lover.

I feel terrible for his family. Their black sheep turned out to be homicidal.

Same; In 1995, I was tasked by a family to retrieve a suicide gun from the Irving, Texas PD and sell it at a gun show.

*I did tell the buyer what it was and it’s PD history.

Almost always, firearms used in a murder are destroyed.
This makes sense, otherwise we'd have ghoulish auctions for "The weapon that killed..."

I'm with you all. I don't let anything evil in my house. Not even tarot cards or Ouija boards. No pornography. No evil books or movies. A murder weapon least of all.

What a low life. Grandpa gave him a rifle he enjoyed for hunting, and the little furry-penis sucking freak used it to commit a murder.

Grandpa has to feel sick. This society removed shame, and this is what you get.

They destroyed Rittenhouse’s gun. I believe he gave his permission. He didn’t do anything wrong. There was talk about it being worth a lot given it’s use.

I don’t blame the Dad, but I have some questions about the mother. Before her Facebook profile was deleted someone posted a bunch of her photos on there, and there were several of them from 2021-23 where the perp is standing alone outside wearing a face diaper.

Pretty sure there is no chance of them getting that rifle back.

“More often than not the gun is quickly dropped off at the nearest pawn shop for a few bucks. Seen it happen too many times with family.”

Every time I see some treasure in a gun store, some classic from the 20s, 40s, 50s etc....I think that same thing. Sometimes there is a familial dead end and some elderly widow or woman just doesn’t want it and has no relative to gift it to. But a ton of them are greedy kids and heirs.

And now I see some of mine and know they could live a hundred more years, and see myself as their steward. Hope to direct them where they will be appreciated.

Murder weapons are released all the time at the conclusion of proceedings... but in his case it’ll be after a death penalty. Could be decades.

My father left me his M-1 carbine. As I am old now myself, and no one in the family who shows any interest, I sold it to a work college who is a big gun guy. I even sold it for less than I could have gotten if I shopped it around.

I know it will be appreciated more by him than anyone else. I would rather have left it to family, but, as I said, no one cares.
