BMW built just 803 M4 GTS track weapons worldwide, and the very last one — #803 with only 305 miles — is now for sale at $1 million.

Own the Final Chapter of BMW’s M4 GTS Legacy

The 2016 BMW M4 GTS represented Munich’s most focused track weapon, a limited-production masterpiece that bridged the gap between road car and race machine. BMW produced just 803 examples globally, with only 300 originally earmarked for the United States. Now, the final M4 GTS ever produced, #803 of 803 is for sale on Exotic Car List with just 305 miles on the odometer, for an impressive $1 million.

When BMW introduced the M4 GTS in 2016, it commanded a base price of $135,195 before options, more than double the regular M4’s MSRP of $67,000. At launch, this positioned the GTS against competitors like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and McLaren 570S, so you can be sure BMW made sure the M4 GTS was worth the ask.

The M4 That’s As Fast As a Porsche Carrera GT

The M4 GTS wasn’t simply a more powerful M4, it featured the world’s first production car water-injection system, making it both the first and last M car to feature this technology. This revolutionary system provided a 49-horsepower gain over the standard M4, spraying water into the intake manifold to cool the pressurized air-fuel mixture for more efficient combustion, an old hot-rodders’ trick. The result was the M4 GTS’ 493 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque.

The GTS philosophy extended beyond raw power. BMW stripped weight, added aggressive aerodynamics, installed a roll cage, and fitted manually-adjustable suspension. The result was a street-legal track car that could lap the Nürburgring in 7:28, matching the original lap time of the Porsche Carrera GT. It took BMW nearly a decade to beat that lap time, with the hardcore G82 M4 CSL setting a 7:18 lap in 2023.

My current car is a used BMW. I’ve had it for 4 and a half years. I haven’t had the slightest problem from it.

I can do a lot of the work myself. Some I can’t. Like when the following glitches started to get worse in cold weather. The windows were cycling their open/closed door positions randomly (they go down slightly until you close the door, then seal up). So they’d start tapa-tapa-tapa doing it with the doors closed. Also, the high beams started to go on randomly, even when the switch was in the manual low beam position. Highly awkward when people think I am flashing high beams at them.

Took the local dealership guys days communicating with the factory on which computer to replace and how to program it to communicate with the car. Cost $1700, and at least that problem has not come back.

So I just bought a new m340. I think it's my 7th BMW. I have not had any significant issues with any of them but I can do my own work.

Rules for buying a BMW:

No V8s

No M cars

No 4 cylinder turbos past 100k miles

No N54s

So what's left? Any straight 6 other than the N54. The older ones will need a bunch of refreshing but it's not too hard or expensive. N55 and B58, green light.

It’s known to be quite solid. Although there’s two areas; 1. connecting rod bearings, they wear and need a larger tolerance replacement at around 60K - 2. Throttle actuators (2 of them), plastic gears wear.

Outside that, especially once those are taken care of, people say it’s a solid car. But just like all German cars, make sure you maintain them properly!

Nope. The mXXX series of cars are not true M cars.

Yup...40 years of 5 series...including e34 M5 which I drove to 175k and went to e39s including an 03 last naturally aspirated V8 loaded with M parts and Sports packages until sold at 247k mileage. Then 540 sports and 535 turbo sports and current ‘21 540 sport with sport mode which shifts faster than I could 30 years ago. Love my Ultimate Driving machines! ... ymmv
