Have they ever released a photo of the Rile used by Tyler Robinson?
I recently inherited a Mauser from WWII, and I'm confident that the one he used was not that style,
but I am curious as to how he carried it due to it's length.
They don't seem to be easily dis-assembled.
Was the stock cut down?
“...found it odd that some claim Lee Harvey Oswald used a Mauser including a rogue DPD officer who died mysteriously a short time later.”
The Carcano rifles, including the M91/38, were not directly licensed by Mauser, but they were influenced by various bolt-action designs, including those from Mauser. The Carcano series was developed by the Italian arms manufacturer Fucile Carcano, and while it shares some design elements with Mauser rifles, it is a unique design in its own right.
For clarification, I was only addressing how the rifle got to the rooftop; NOT how it was taken from the rooftop or deposited in the wooded area where it was recovered.
My take is that the scope rings are too low, forcing the scope rearward so that the ocular bell clears the back of the receiver.
That doesn’t look like a Mauser action to me.
It's pristine, made in 1953, owned by an older gentleman who just bought it for its looks.
“ Have you ever fired a weapon. People use .30-06 all the time”
I shared a story of an event 50+ years ago about an inexperienced newbie driving the scope into his skull.
What part of my story makes you think I don’t know about the old great 30-06!
I own and shoot military service rifles and have 3 in 30-06: 1903, 1903A3, and M1 Garand.
I’ve likely put more lead downrange than you have. Learn to comprehend the written language.
PS: It’s not his but just like it and better looking with as new action and stock.
A lesson not often repeated.
A large number of warsurplused Mauser 98s were sporterized and rechambered for 30.06 it was a common practice in the 40s and 50s.
Mauser receivers were/are sold and barreled to whatever caliber is desired.
Very common and very basic gunsmithing.
Hmmm i thought it was a Winchester 70
It’s a pretty crap build IMO.
Oswald used an Italian Carcano.
Sorry miss read what you were replying to, just saw the statement about the recoil of a .30-06 driving the ocular back to the eye, which any rifle could do if you aren’t holding it correctly. my bad.
In the picture in #17 it looks like it has Leupoold dovetail style mounts and rings, with the front ring being offset to move the scope back.
FWIW, the designers of the Springfield apparently copied enough features from earlier Mauser designs that the German company sued the U.S. government, and won (from Wikipedia):
"Despite Springfield Armory's use of a two-piece firing pin and other slight design alterations, the M1903 was, in fact, a Mauser design, and after that company brought suit, the U.S. government was judged to pay $250,000 in royalties to Mauser Werke."
This isn’t adding up at all.
He supposed drove there gray car.
He supposed limped to the building with the rifle down his pants.
Here we see the original rifle box. Where did that come from?
They are different. I promise. I do have both, and have compared them side-by-side.
Never mind that, the video/audio does not sound anything like a .30-06; they are like a cannon compared to the light “crack” heard in the recording.
Not original rifle box, it was and evidence box used by LE.
