Former MSNBC analyst Matthew Dowd tried to defend the controversial comments he made about Charlie Kirk this week and took a swipe at his former employer Friday for caving to a "mob."
Dowd was dropped by the progressive network after suggesting the conservative activist's "hateful" rhetoric had prompted the shooting in Utah that ultimately claimed his life, but he insisted he didn't know Kirk was the victim at the time of his remarks.
"At MSNBC I have made nearly 1,000 appearances, speaking on a diverse range of topics and always consistently condemned gun violence and political violence of any kind no matter where it came from. This past Wednesday I was asked to come on to talk about a range of topics, and as I was about to go on air, breaking news happened of gun shots being fired at a Kirk event in Utah," the fired pundit wrote in a Substack post.
"Keep in mind when the anchor came to me to comment on the ‘national environment,’ the only thing known at the time was shots were fired and there was no reporting yet that Kirk was the target or had been shot at. I said in the moment that we needed to get the facts because we have no idea what this could be and that it could easily be someone firing a gun in the air to celebrate the event. Remember Kirk is a diehard advocate of the 2nd amendment."
Dowd attempted to link his comments accusing Kirk of spewing "hateful" rhetoric to wisdom handed down by Holocaust survivors describing 1930s Germany and how "#ItStartedWithWords" came to mind.
"And I said my now legendary line ‘hateful thoughts lead to hateful words which ultimately lead to hateful actions.’ I thought to myself how could anyone disagree with this...

I do wonder this morning what Ms Dowd said those first few hours after a democrat party liner shot up the Republican House members at practice on the baseball infield a few years ago.
The very fact that MSLSD would invite him that many times demonstrates they are all of the same hive-mind mentality.
So he wasn’t being hateful just incredibly stupid?
In that case I expect MSLSD to hire him back and give him a raise.
Give him a chair between those cuck muppets Mika and Joe.
Only desperate people do that. These rabid old hippies, and their indoctrinated Prozac'd and Adderalled kids and grand kids are realizing that trying violently to make 2025 into 1968 isn't playing well with sane people tired of their chaos.
Clown was fired in a NY minute, hardly any time for backlash. It was just to obvious that he is hateful, moronic pile of crap and even MSNBC Management saw it in real time.
keep digging dowd

Statement from MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler: “During our breaking news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk, Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable. We apologize for his statements, as has he. There is no place for violence in…— MSNBC Public Relations (@MSNBCPR) September 10, 2025
It doesn't sound like Dowd is apologizing for anything.

He’ll be kryptonite - no media outlet worth a damn will want him. Stand by for DowdCast...
Well let’s keep that mob mentality rolling and banning/firing all sorts of people. My thread on FB has a ton ready to be doxed and fired!

I’ve sent a couple to Ryan Fournier who is currently exposing the hate of the left and getting people fired. So feel free to research on your own and send to Ryan if you think they deserved to be fired.

Yeah, that’s the ticket!
Lmao. Window licker Dowd.
Is this guy related to former NYT columnist Maureen Dowd?
If you believe people deserve to be shot for their opinions, don’t cry when you get fired for yours.
He's a legend in his own mind!
His line is "legendary" only when placed in a row with such other famous quotes as, "Who will rid me of this meddlesome priest?" and "So, Mrs. Lincoln: Aside from that, how did you like the play?"
Regards,
What Charlie represents (and I use the present tense, because through his videos, he will always be with us) is tough love. He is the adult in the room. The Left, by contrast, are children—screaming, kicking, spitting, and now killing. They refuse to grow up and hate with murderous passion anyone who suggests that they must.
That’s the heart of today’s struggle: Childishness vs. maturity. Idiocy vs. common sense. Lies vs. truth. That’s why so many on the Left react the way they do. Children don’t take responsibility—children are innately irresponsible.
We are living through our own version of Lord of the Flies.
