John Candy was one of the good guys of Hollywood.
If his dad ever shows up unannounced one day, if Macauley going to do this?
There are certain actors who only have one character that they reprise over and over. Jack Nicholson to name one. John Candy was another. Except he’s pretty much the opposite of Jack Nicholson. Kind, self effacing, caring, silly and sweely likeable.
I liked John Candy and his wife Rosemary, they were really nice all the time. They lived on Mandeville in Brentwood forever.
Nice
Terrible! Terrible to have a mean father. My father was a saint, hubby’s father not so much.
But hubby, like McCauley determined that he would be different. And he was, there is not one day that our daughter doubted that her dad loved her.
John Candy was a really good guy, you never hear a bad word about him. Still so sad that he left us so soon!
John Candy in Summer Rental is his best movie in my opinion

E.g., John Wayne, Gary Cooper, Eastwood, Christopher Walken, etc.
There’s a difference between actors who come out of acting school, whether it’s the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts or the Pasadena Playhouse, and those who come out of comedy (with stand-up being about the only thing surviving from the old Vaudville circuit days).
Also “Terrible! Terrible” to have a severely abusive mother...
(Who keeps you away from your father..)
Uncle Buck is my favorite!
I’d pick Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.
Indeed. I miss him. So many great movies...
He lived in Glencoe, Illinois, his parents still live there. He has taken us to see where some of the sets of some of John Hugh’s films. We saw the Home Alone house, the park where Kevin evaded the cop. We saw the church where the exterior shots were done near the end of the movie Sixteen Candles, and we visited the spot where Cameron lay comatose after seeing his Dad’s sports car get destroyed. I sat on that low wall in that exact spot. It’s a beautiful spot to view Lake Michigan from.
Fun times!
That would be a fun tour! Those were my teen movies!
He, like John Candy, left us way too soon.
Another fun movie with John Candy, with Dan Ackroyd, was The Great Outdoors. It was supposed to have taken place in Wisconsin, but I don’t know where.
I’ve grown to dislike Steve Martin
I’ve never been much of a fan of Steve Martin, but he was good in that role.
Same with my hubby..his father was a brute,a bully..as adults the brothers and sister decided “it ends here”...he’s dead and buried and no one not even his wife talks about him, except in negative ways.
