HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A 42-year-old man is charged with murder after he allegedly shot an 11-year-old boy who was playing the "ding dong ditch" game with his friends Saturday night.
Gonzalo Leon Jr. is accused of fatally shooting 11-year-old Julian Guzman on Saturday night.
Court records show that Guzman, his cousin, and some other friends were at a relative's house on Racine Street attending a birthday party. The boys reportedly got bored and decided to play the "ding dong ditch" game around the neighborhood.
Guzman and his cousin were ringing doorbells of homes in the area and running away, records state. A witness said Guzman had run to Leon's home, rang the doorbell several times, and began to run away.
Court records show that's when Leon allegedly walked out of his house, onto a public street, pointed a gun, and fired.
"There was no weapon displayed (by the boy)," Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare said. "No theft of property, the young man was shot in the back, on a public street. It's a murder."
Julian was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Sunday.
Leon was initially detained by police Saturday night. Records show he would not talk to the police and asked for a lawyer. Among several reasons that prosecutors could not immediately charge Leon was that the eyewitness did not identify him as the shooter.
"One of the initial issues is that we had a negative ID," Teare said. "But that's explained in any case where you just had a young man who just watched his cousin get gunned down, and show him 6 pictures to identify somebody."

As if boys over 16 do? Like I said their parents should have said stay at home knowing full well they would get into mischief.
I have yet to see any recount of the incident from the suspect. City officials claim ringing doorbells. No confirmation from the kids, none from the shooter, and none from any kind of recording.
After 2020, I’m very suspicious of official announcements from officials of the government, especially when I cannot find out the ethnicities involved.
If the doorbell was rung, the shoot was bad. If the door was kicked, it’s a more clouded situation. I’d like some real evidence, not just the word of a city official who has a vested interest in protecting certain demographics.

In this case - Hispanic male shot another Hispanic that was 11. I say extreme overreaction.
He seems like a real nut, a big gun guy with 20 guns, yet this turns out to be his big gun action, shooting down the street at night at an 11 year old doorbell kid, I wonder what bizarre action figure gun fantasy was going on in his head.
His life will sure be different now.
Kids are going to do what they do. This kind of thing has been going on forever, even back when our culture was more ordered and sane.

How do we say it’s “extreme”? What do we know of the crime rate in this man’s area? Has he been a victim of crime in the past?
I can clearly see something put this man on edge. I also want to remind you all that at midnight there was no way for him to know that was an 11 year old. I should also point out that a lot of kids that age have been doing crimes like break ins, and stealing cars. They don’t get time like adults so gangs recruit them.

I blame the parents on this one. Parents need to actually parent. That means telling a kid like this to not go out late and get into trouble because something bad might happen.
Parents don’t parent, they are lazy these days, then their kid FAFO.

Every day a story is posted here about some “youth” “teen” who gets into trouble, sometimes even dies because he/she has horrible parents.
Look I said don’t kill the kid in abortion but if you don’t want to be a parent then give the kid up for adoption. Give the kid to someone who realizes that parenting is a 24 hour a day job, 7 days a week no vacations till the child is 18 and sometimes beyond that if the child is disabled.

My guess is the homeowner shooter was aroused from sleep, went into protective/defensive mode and was ready to shoot anybody who carelessly aroused him....what kid goes around at 11pm with his friends teasing/scaring resting/sleeping strangers ?
I will never know. Nowadays one cannot chalk up disruptive behaviour in boys as harmless pranks.
There is an argument for “diminished capacity” as shooter may not have been quite awake or had a few brews in his own home. And we won’t know if the boys taunted the shooter.
Either way, a total mess. Rule of thumb... don’t startle a black Labrador Retriever, it may be a Cane Corso.
Guy needed to have some kind of sprinkler/ water setup he could turn on and soak the dingdongers. Thats how you deal with them. Not with a firearm. That just puts you in prison for no good reason.
Try reading about the case and reading the posts to you correcting the time that you keep posting.
I agree but it isnt harmless. Its not destroying property, but it is stressful on people. Eveh more so if you are targeted regularly/repeatedly. So no, thats not really true.
